CLUB TRIP TO SLC on 2/9-2/10 - print out paper, fill it out, and bring to Holt on Tuesday!

Mr. PVHS/PV Invite Fundraising info update with link to paperwork (can also pick up from Coach Holt) - please start fundraising for Mr. PVHS and PV Invite shirts!

Thought of the Week - "Start where you are. Not where you want to be. Not where you think you should be. Not where others think you should be. But where you are. Little by little becomes a lot."

-Brad Stulberg

Now is the time to start. Maybe you worked out a lot in the last few weeks; maybe you didn't do anything (and maybe feel a little scared to start or even ashamed that you didn't do what you should have). No big deal. We can't change the past (although we can learn from it), so might as well get started. NOW IS THE TIME TO START!

Paperwork / Physical / Fee – you need to have your paperwork and physical done before you can come out to official practice in Feb. To do this, go to registermyathlete.com and get registered for either boys or girls track. If you have a physical on file at school (for this year), you are good. If not, print out the paperwork (or get it in the office) and get your physical taken care of and turned into Kara in the office. You’ll also need to pay your $100 participation fee before you can come out to official practice which will begin Feb. 20th (or when your season is done for winter sports).

Grades – Your 2nd quarter grades determine your eligibility for the 1st few weeks of the season. Then 3rd quarter for the majority of the season… so make sure they are good!

Winter Practice – The goal of winter practice is to get you in shape for the season. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you be there. Those in a winter sport, we’ll see you when your season is over… good luck in bball, wrestling, whatever.

Schedule - It is not too late to join our Winter Practices

SPRINT, JUMPS & THROWS - meeting Wed & Fri after school

DISTANCE RUNNERSmeeting each day after school (1/13 on own or form own group, 1/15 meet at Wash. roundabout Chipotle 7a to carpool to Hurricane Rim Trail)

Indoor Track – there are a few indoor meets up north in Jan/Feb.

If you would like to go to any, let Holt know and he’ll get you registered. You’ll just need to get yourself there and have a place to stay.

schedule (below outdoor schedule) and info:

Jan 19-20 BYU (follow link for info and registration - athletes must individually register for this meet, registration due Jan 18th at 5p, ask Holt if you need help)

Jan 26-27 Weber State (follow link for info - Coach Holt can register you for this meet, registration due Jan 25th at 7p)

Feb 2-3 UCCTCA State Championships (follow link for info - Coach Holt can register you for this meet, registration due Jan 31st at midnight)

Feb 9 Distance Challenge (follow link for info, not updated to 2024 yet - Coach Holt can register you for this meet, registration due Feb 7)

Feb 10 Golden Sprint Challenge (follow link for info - Coach Holt can register you for this meet, registration due Feb 9th at 8p)

Feb 10 Salem High Jump / Shot Put (no other info yet)

Feb 15-17 Simplot Games (follow link for info - Coach Holt can register you for this meet, registration due Feb 11th)

OFFICIAL TRACK PRACTICE – Officially, we will start up on Tues, Feb

20th.  We will practice each Mon-Thur afternoon from 3:00-5:00 (some people may have morning practice) - Fri time will depend on event coach.

Spring Track Schedule – also posted on the track blog on the right column (in "web view")

Gear – You will need to pre-order your gear.  All Varsity runners (and any JV who would like) must have the Varsity team uniform. This consists of the Varsity singlet which will be around $40 - it is the maroon top we have used the last couple years; and also need a pair of the team shorts (prices will vary on design $20-$40) - These items will be purchased through the school.  An order will be going out in February.

-We will also have a Spirit Pack with OPTIONAL items team gear.  Follow the link to check out the items. Order is due by Saturday, January 20th (we will not do a late or 2nd order). This order is open to anyone: athletes, family, friends, supporters, youth athletes. Again, this gear is optional. JV athletes may order and wear the uniform singlet from the spirit pack as their actual jersey. But, everyone in Varsity meets must wear the Varsity team uniform described above.

Fundraiser – We will once again be doing our "crowd-source" based fundraising through Raise365. Everyone who participates will earn a PV Track shirt as well as incentives for $ raised. All money raised through this can be applied to your PV track fees (hotel/trip fees, uniforms, etc). We also use this money to pay for our track equipment. This year we ordered all new hurdles ($20,000) from the money raised last year!

State Recap and End of Year Info

Thanks for such a great season. Although there were a few bummers throughout the year, it really was another awesome season for PV Track and Field. Thanks to all the coaches and parents for support. And especially thanks to all the athletes who bought in to the program and worked hard throughout the season. Panther Track and Field continues to be one of the best programs in the state and the top program at PV! As we look to continue to grow and build, we hope all you non-seniors plan on coming out again (and bringing a few friends with you). Everyone have a great summer (and a safe summer) and we'll see you at the next one.

State: Results Both teams put up very solid efforts at State and came away as 3rd place finishers! Here's a little rundown of our meet: 100 - Abe hit a PR with a great race in the prelims; Rachel ran a PR, Jade just missed out on finals, and Ashley ran a PR to make qualify 8th. In finals, she moved up two spots and earned 6th place. 200: Abe had another solid race and placed 12th in the prelims; Jade took 14th in the prelims and Ashley qualified 8th into the finals where she held her spot and earned a podium finish. 400: Ryder made it into finals and ended up 9th. Jade and Emmalee both ran PRs in the prelims and then took 5th and 7th in the finals. 800: Porter and Bridger placed 17th and 12th respectively. Trey finished the meet with his 3rd State Championship and set a new School Record! Kate and Emmalee finished 11th and 10th, while Elle earned a podium spot with a PR that placed her 8th, and Adri finished up her amazing PV career with a 4th place finish. 1600: Bridger, Porter, and Talmage place 10th, 11th, and 18th in a stacked field and Trey ran a dominating race to claim his 2nd State Championship. All four girls ended up on the podium with Adri leading the way in 3rd, Brook 5th, Kate 6th, and Emmalle 8th. 3200: Again we had four guys in the race with Porter in 20th and Talmage in 18th, Bridger ran a spectacular race to finish 4th, and Trey set the tone of the meet with this his first State Title in dominating fashion. The girls had five qualifiers - Elle place 10th, Katie 9th, Adri got on the podium with a 7th place finish, Kate ran a strong race to place 4th, and Brook was the state runner-up with a 2nd place finish. 100 hurdles: Tori ran a PR in the prelims to be seeded 5th, where she matcher her old PR to finish 5th overall. 300 hurdles: Dom ran a solid race and was 11th in the prelims; Tori also ran well and finished 10th. Shot Put: Colton had a strong series of throws and finished (so close, less than 1 inch behind first) up 3rd; Tea also threw very well and ended up 5th. Discus: TJ attempted to throw left-handed (long story) and ended up 16th, Franklin was 11th, Colton 5th, and Brodie hit a PR to vault himself up the ranking to finish 3rd. Javelin: Seedar's hard work throughout the year paid off with an 8th place finish, Sawyer was working to overcome some injuries and threw well enough to place 5th. High Jump: our girls had a strong presence and jumped well - Claire placed 10th, Rachel 9th with a season's best, Isi earned a 7th place finish, and Tori was our lone girls individual State Champion with a clean set of jumps all the way through 5'7.75" to win the title. 4x100: our girls team of MacKenzie, Ashley, Elsie, and Rachel ran very well and earned 4th place. 4x200: The boys team of Tyson, Abe, Spencer, and Dom ran a solid time to take 6th; the girls team of MacKenzie, Ashley, Tori, and Rachel hit a season's best and earned a 3rd place podium finish. 4x400: In the last event of the meet (and season), the boys team of Tyson, Spencer, Ryder, and Dom hit a season's best and placed 7th; the girls team of MacKenzie, Elle, Emmalee, and Jade ran a spectacular race and won the State Championship. 4x800: The boys team of Porter, Diego, Bridger, and Trey ran well throughout and placed 3rd; the girls team of Kate, Elle, Brook, and Adri dominated their race finishing not far off our school record to win the State Championship.

Sentinel and BYU Invitational: Sentinel Results / BYU results Unfortunately, we had some tough weather up north this weekend that made it difficult to get the top marks we wanted, but we still had some great results in the competition. The girls placed very well at Sentinel taking 2nd while the boys took 5th. The meet MVP (unofficially as awarded by me!) was Tori - she won the 100h, won and made an attempt at the school record in high jump, and took 4th in the 300h. Jade and Ashley both ran well despite major wind in the 100 and 200 taking 4th and 5th and then 3rd and 4th. In the 200 they wre joined by Brianna taking 6th. Our 4x200s took 2nd (girls) and 5th (boys). Kate, Brook, and Adri went 2, 3, 8 in the 1600. MacKenzie ran a strong 400 in the conditions to take 2nd. Trey and Ryder were 5th and 8th on the boys side. Chloe took advantage of making finals in the disc to earn a point with an 8th place finish. And TJ and Brodie went 2nd and 7th for the boys disc. We had a small crew that stopped off at BYU: TJ hit a nice PR in the shot to take 4th, then followed it up the next day with a 2nd place finish in the disc; Trey ran a very strong 3200 taking 9th; and Sawyer continues his stellar season with a new PR and SCHOOL RECORD throw in the jav - his 199-01 toss is the #13 mark in the nation this year!
