Another solid week. Thanks for everyone's help at the Youth meet. We are at about the mid-point of the season. This would be a great time to take an evaluation of how you are doing - are you getting to practice (on time?), are you putting your best effort in each day, is your attitude positive and contagious to others? If things are going great then keep it up. If you find a few weaknesses, do what you can each day to improve on them.

Hurricane Invite Recap: The boys finished 6th and the girls 3rd at the Hurricane Invite. Full results here. We continue to see strong results from our top performers, but one of the most exciting things happening this season is our newer/younger athletes are continuing to improve so much, so we'll try and highlight a bit of each: Rylee and Jessica scored points in the 1600 and we also saw big PRs from Kyanne and Brinley P; in the boys 1600 Julien placed in the top 8 and Cooper, Jason, and Zack got big PRs. For the first time in many years, we had 2 girls make finals in the 100 at an invite with Arden and Katelyn qualifying 5 with identical 13.26 times then finishing 6th and 8th in the finals, Kali and Crystal also improved a lot in their 100s. Sherm ran a strong 100 and finished 3rd and Ian broke into the 11s for the first time. Alli ran a SQ in the 400 prelims and then improved on her time to win the event with a 58.57. In the boys' 400 Marcus and Evan broke under 55 for the first time this season. Ellie continues to improve in the 300 hurdles and made finals in breaking 50 for the first time and then placed 5th in PRing in the finals. The girls medley team composed of Arden, Katelyn, Jada, and Alli recorded one of the top times in the state this year to SQ by 5 seconds. Katelyn continued her improvement in the 200 by making finals and then moving up to 4th with a nice PR. NeNe also ran a very strong 200. The boys 200 saw Sherm set another PR while placing 2nd and Ian just missing finals. In the girl's 3200 Alli, Pyper, and Jenessa all placed in the top 8. And in the guy's race, Cooper ran very strong to PR and place 5th. Jason, Zack, Tyler, and Gabe also ran very well in their first 3200s ever. The boy's 4x100 had a thrilling come from behind victory that just missed a SQ. In the 800, Rylee ran a big PR and placed 4th, and once again Kyanne ran a great race for a huge improvement. Evan ran a season's best in his 800 to place 5th, and Dakota PRed. All of our boys shot putters continue to improve as PRs were hit by Brennan, Nick, Peter, Bruce, and Doug. And Gina had a strong finals to move into 2nd place on the girl's side. Jaron hit a strong final jump in his LJ to place 6th with a PR, and Ellie tied her PR with a 4-8 HJ. Nick continues to throw the disc well and placed 4th. Great job everyone.
Alumni Update: A few of our alumni competed collegiately this past weekend - up at the UVU Invite Celeste threw jav for Dixie St. and Carson ran his first ever steeple for Weber State. And also, Josie ran a strong 5000 for SUU out in San Francisco.
Thought of the Week: "Greatness is what happens when YOU aren't afraid to relentlessly push YOUrself to tear down all YOUr walls of limitations." - Edmond Mbiaka
There are many great messages in this quote - thoughts about being relentless, continually pushing, breaking down barriers, and so on. But we've highlighted on word - YOU - because none of this happens by someone else giving it to you... a coach, a parent, a teammate, a teacher, whatever - the only person that can make you become great is you! You become great by getting to practice each day, pushing yourself to your limits at the appropriate times, realizing that limits are only a something created by you and that you can break through them and go to new heights. So make up your mind... are you going to get after this?

Thought of the Week: "Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle." -Napoleon Hill.
We are at the most important part of our season for your growth. Hopefully you are in pretty good shape now, so the next few weeks are when you should really start to see some improvement and development. But to do this, you must (like the quote says) continually give effort and push through the struggle. All growth in life comes from how we act during times of struggle. For us, in track and field, that struggle might be during the middle of a hard workout, getting in those few extra throws, watching video on your jumps and analyzing form strength and weaknesses. No matter what it is, you must put in the effort to see the big growth that we all want. And now is the time to put the big effort in, not in a month when you really wish you were hitting a PR or Herriman Qualifier or State Qualifier.

Important Announcements for the PV Invite... please read - we'll leave this up here for for just one more week... The dance has been moved to the Saturday of the PV Invite. It is imperative that ALL athletes are at the meet Friday and Saturday to help at the meet (on other dance/meet days, we will try and work schedules out as best as possible, but this time you MUST be there). So please plan your day date (or tell your dance date) with this in mind. Saturday meet clean up usually finishes by 2:00p. I know this is a pain, but PLEASE plan on being available to help.
Parent Help - We will need a lot of parent help at the Invite. If you are willing to volunteer to work in the concessions, at the timing tent, or with the field event weigh-ins, please let Coach Holt know ASAP (pineviewtrack@gmail.com or reply to the Remind text) - we've had some say they are willing to help, but we could use more... You will be hearing from us early in the week with assignments.
Drinks - We are asking each team member to bring drinks to sell at the concession (please donate if you can!)
Freshmen - Junior Girls - water: a case of 16.9 oz water bottles
Senior Girls and all Boys - sports drink (such as Gatorade or Powerade): an 8-14 pack of 20 oz bottles (there are many sizes, please get the 20 oz bottles for consistency)
Performance Chart: The first edition of our PV Track and Field Performance Chart based upon our Scoring Tables has been updated for the SC Invite. We use this to rate performance across events and gender as well as to help us decide who will travel to away invitationals. In this first week we see Alli (1600) and Marcus (200, 100) at the top of the chart.
Herriman Qualifying Marks: These are the marks Herriman used last year for their invite. I would imagine they will be very similar this year. Please note the comment at the bottom of the page.
Youngsters: Practice for our 6th-8th grade developmental camp will be held Monday and Thursday from 3:00-4:00 at PVHS. Get paperwork at practice. Youth meet (for grades K-8th) schedule has been updated.
NCAA Tournament Challenge: For years we have had a track and XC tournament challenge. And although Coach Holt has never won, this is the year! Get your picks in at ESPN.com and join our group - Group Name: PVXCTrack Password: Panthers
Alumni Update: Many former Panthers participated in track meets over the weekend. Down at the UNLV Invite Celeste Fiame threw 122' in the jav for Dixie St., Carson Horspool ran a 16:11 in the 5000 for Weber State, and Mike Finch ran a 4:12 in the 1500 for SUU.
Thought of the Week: "... You need to surround yourself with far-sighted visionaries. You need to surround yourself with people who speak the same language as you. You need to surround yourself with people who fight and refuse to give up on their destiny. You need to surround yourself with people who testimonies give you reason to press on." - DS Mashego
You will become like those whom you are surrounded by. If you want great things, a positive attitude, to never give up, to succeed in school, to see the good in others, or whatever else, you need to surround yourself with those who do these things. It is a proven fact that attitudes and outlooks rub off on everyone around us. What kind of people are you surrounding yourself with? What kind of attitudes are being rubbed off on you?

If you are willing to volunteer to work in the concessions, at the timing tent, or with the field event weigh-ins, please let Coach Holt know ASAP (pineviewtrack@gmail.com or reply to the Remind text). Thanks for all those who have volunteered. We still need many more - we are struggling to get help at the field events (we will train you and have all the helpers you will ever need there!)
Snow Canyon Invite: What a great start to the season for the Panthers! Taking advantage of the nice new track and (sometimes) good weather, we were able to get a lot of people to hit PRs (Personal Records), and even some Herriman and State Qualifiers. Some of our top finishers and outstanding performances: Alli started the Utah high school track season off with a bang running at NEW SCHOOL RECORD in the 1600 and a first place in a time of 5:00.51 (just over half a second from breaking 5:00... amazing!). Pyper also placed, finishing 8th with a huge PR in 5:30. In the boys 1600 Julien placed 6th. We also saw great races from Luke, Scottie, and Jason. Arden started her hs career with a strong run in the 100. And in the boys 100 Marcus (Fresh) and Sherm (Soph) went 1st and 3rd and Marcus grabbed his first SQ (State Qualifier). We saw some strong times from our girls in the 400 - Yrene, Jada, and Mady). Our girls 4x800 teams went 1st and 3rd. And our boys 4x800 team placed 2nd. We saw a 3rd place from our girls 4x200 team, and a 4th and 6th place finish from the boys in teh 4x200. In the girls 3200 Jessica finished 2nd and got a SQ and Rylee ran a strong 5th, just off the SQ. Another strong race in the 3200 was Kylee's thrilling heat win in a big PR. The boys scored strong in the 3200 with Julien and Cooper breaking 10:00 finishing 3rd and 4th and Scottie also picking up points in 7th. James hit the finals in both the 110h and 300h taking 6th in both. The boys 4x100 grabbed a 6th place finish. Some of our younger girls ran well in the 800, including PRs from Jenna, Brinley, and Kennis. In the boys race, Evan scored with a 7th place finish and Zach ran a strong race in his first hs track meet. The girls medley ran a very solid time and placed 2nd. In the boys 200, Marcus and Sherm once again ran a thrilling race. This time taking 1st and 2nd, respectively, and both getting a State Qualifying time! The girls 4x400 placed 4th. Brynlee made finals in the jav and placed 7th. Douglas also made finals in the guy's jav and placed 8th. A few of our rookie shot putters, Brennan, Peter, and Payton (on the guy's side), and Rebecca (on the girl's side) threw very well. Gina had a strong start to the season and placed 2nd in the Shot. Mady and Ellie both did well in their jumps (Long and High, respectively). Dallin had a strong meet and placed 5th in the High Jump and 3rd in the Long Jump. And finally, Nick picked up where he left off last year in the Disc and took 5th with a SQ of his own. Overall, these great performances led to very solid team performances for us. The ladies ended up 5th after holding a solid 2nd for most of the meet. And in a good invite with 16 scoring teams and all the teams from Region 9, the boys were a solid 2nd! Great meet everyone!
Thought of the Week: "The hardest thing to do is work when no one is looking." -Ray Lewis
This is character week! How badly do you really want to reach your goals? Often we have great visions of ourselves. But are we really willing to work for it when no one is there to watch over you or guide you through every step? This is an important time of the season to be hitting big workouts. So dig down deep and push yourself. Find a way to be committed. And ultimately, this will be a week that you can look back on and say that much of what you accomplished this season happened because of what you did right now.
Registration: This has got to be done by now! registermyathlete and participation fees must all be complete and cleared to participate with our team in any way.

Week of Mar. 4 - 9
We have a meet this week! What?! Some of us are ready to roll, others are not. Don't let that scare you; we all have to start somewhere.
Registration: Hugely important... Everyone needs to have their registermyathlete done! This can found at registermyathlete.com. If you have competed in a sport at PVHS this school year, this will be an easy few clicks of the button and you'll be done. If you haven't competed in a sport this year, you will also need to get your PHYSICAL. This needs to be done ASAP. And finally, everyone needs to get his/her PARTICIPATION FEE paid. This can be done at PVHS, through registermyathlete, or at myschoolfees.com (I think). If you don't have these steps done, you will no longer be able to practice with us. You must have your registermyathlete complete by Monday and your Participation Fee paid by Wednesday to participate at the meet this weekend.
Meet Schedule: Check out the 2019 schedule on the link to the right.

Friday-Saturday - Snow Canyon Invite. We will get as many athletes as possible into this meet (we have 6/event, but priority will be given to the Varsity level athletes). Bus Schedule: Fri - HS out after 4th period and bus will leave there shortly after. MS out at 1:45 and the bus will come get you. Sat - Bus will leave PVHS at 7:45a. Youngsters: Practice for our 6th-8th grade developmental camp will be held Monday and Thursday from 3:00-4:00 at PVHS. Get paperwork at practice. Youth meet (for grades K-8th) schedule has been updated.
XC CAMP info for distance runners: High Altitude Camp has been scheduled for July 29th (Mon) through August 1st (Thurs). So see if you can get things scheduled around that. Our moratorium will be July 1st - 6th, so that would be a great week to hit some family vacations and stuff.
Thought of the Week: "The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team." -Phil Jackson
Pretty good words by a pretty good coach. There was a reason Michael Jordan was arguably the greatest basketball player ever and why he won so many championships. Sure talent helped, and he was definitely a very hard worker. But what truly made him great was learning (from people like Phil Jackson) that every member of the team brought something that could help him be better - just as he could bring many things to make each of them better. Then together, that's when the true greatness happened.
