Another solid week. Thanks for everyone's help at the Youth meet. We are at about the mid-point of the season. This would be a great time to take an evaluation of how you are doing - are you getting to practice (on time?), are you putting your best effort in each day, is your attitude positive and contagious to others? If things are going great then keep it up. If you find a few weaknesses, do what you can each day to improve on them.
Athletes of the Week:
Sprints- Arden and Alec
Field- Po and Brennan
Distance- Rylee and Dakota
Get your nominations in for this week (via text or email). List the name and a short reason why he/she has earned it. These need to be submitted by Monday at lunch.

Hurricane Invite Recap: The boys finished 6th and the girls 3rd at the Hurricane Invite. Full results here. We continue to see strong results from our top performers, but one of the most exciting things happening this season is our newer/younger athletes are continuing to improve so much, so we'll try and highlight a bit of each: Rylee and Jessica scored points in the 1600 and we also saw big PRs from Kyanne and Brinley P; in the boys 1600 Julien placed in the top 8 and Cooper, Jason, and Zack got big PRs. For the first time in many years, we had 2 girls make finals in the 100 at an invite with Arden and Katelyn qualifying 5 with identical 13.26 times then finishing 6th and 8th in the finals, Kali and Crystal also improved a lot in their 100s. Sherm ran a strong 100 and finished 3rd and Ian broke into the 11s for the first time. Alli ran a SQ in the 400 prelims and then improved on her time to win the event with a 58.57. In the boys' 400 Marcus and Evan broke under 55 for the first time this season. Ellie continues to improve in the 300 hurdles and made finals in breaking 50 for the first time and then placed 5th in PRing in the finals. The girls medley team composed of Arden, Katelyn, Jada, and Alli recorded one of the top times in the state this year to SQ by 5 seconds. Katelyn continued her improvement in the 200 by making finals and then moving up to 4th with a nice PR. NeNe also ran a very strong 200. The boys 200 saw Sherm set another PR while placing 2nd and Ian just missing finals. In the girl's 3200 Alli, Pyper, and Jenessa all placed in the top 8. And in the guy's race, Cooper ran very strong to PR and place 5th. Jason, Zack, Tyler, and Gabe also ran very well in their first 3200s ever. The boy's 4x100 had a thrilling come from behind victory that just missed a SQ. In the 800, Rylee ran a big PR and placed 4th, and once again Kyanne ran a great race for a huge improvement. Evan ran a season's best in his 800 to place 5th, and Dakota PRed. All of our boys shot putters continue to improve as PRs were hit by Brennan, Nick, Peter, Bruce, and Doug. And Gina had a strong finals to move into 2nd place on the girl's side. Jaron hit a strong final jump in his LJ to place 6th with a PR, and Ellie tied her PR with a 4-8 HJ. Nick continues to throw the disc well and placed 4th. Great job everyone.
Alumni Update: A few of our alumni competed collegiately this past weekend - up at the UVU Invite Celeste threw jav for Dixie St. and Carson ran his first ever steeple for Weber State. And also, Josie ran a strong 5000 for SUU out in San Francisco.
Thought of the Week: "Greatness is what happens when YOU aren't afraid to relentlessly push YOUrself to tear down all YOUr walls of limitations." - Edmond Mbiaka
There are many great messages in this quote - thoughts about being relentless, continually pushing, breaking down barriers, and so on. But we've highlighted on word - YOU - because none of this happens by someone else giving it to you... a coach, a parent, a teammate, a teacher, whatever - the only person that can make you become great is you! You become great by getting to practice each day, pushing yourself to your limits at the appropriate times, realizing that limits are only a something created by you and that you can break through them and go to new heights. So make up your mind... are you going to get after this?
