What a great start to the season! The Panther Relays were a lot of fun, and then we had a great meet at SC. This is a pretty big week now as we head into what could be called "Commitment Week". Most of the team has gotten into a race/event or two and can now start building some individual goals and our team has had the opportunity to see what we can do if we work hard, support each other, and all strive to really be a part of this track thing. So as we enter Spring Break, we look to each of you to be committed to what you want to become this season and what we want our team to become. If you are in town, let's be to practice. If you are out of town, do your very best to get your workouts in (even if it just some sort of practice - a run, work in a weight room, sprints up and down the street or the beach, whatever... something that will help you and the team keep pushing to be our best).

Race Reports:
Panther Relays - This was a great first meet of the year. It was a bit cold, but a fun opportunity to get out and participate in a few events against other teams in a low-stress environment. Thanks everyone that showed up.
Snow Canyon Invite - The team did very well at the SC Invite this weekend. Although we were missing a few key people on both the girls and guys teams, we still had a lot of finalists and State Qualifiers (SQ). And, of course, we had a lot of PRs (Personal Records). The meet started out with Adri's strong run in the 1600 taking 8th place. In the boys' 1600, Trey earned a SQ with a great time of 4:24.50. Bridger also had a great race and was the 3rd fastest Freshman in the meet. In the girls 100, our sprint crew ran very solid - Jade earned a SQ in her first race and made it to finals where she placed 8th. Brynlee J. and Rachel A. also had strong runs. Marcus looked excellent in his first race and earned a SQ and a NEW SCHOOL RECORD in the prelims, but then topped that time with a 10.58 in winning the finals on Saturday. Turner, Maxx, and Jacob ran well, also. Brynlee J. qualified 4th in the 400 and improved up to 3rd in the finals in a SQ level performance. Claire, Rachel M., and Adri also had great runs. Turner took 3rd in the prelims and finals of the 400 and is setting himself up as the top 400 guy in 4A. in the 300h, Tori just missed out on finals with a tremendous improvement in the first week of racing. Brynlee S. and Lauren had good runs as well. Braxton ran a good starting 300h for the guys. In the 200, Brynlee J. missed out on finals by just one spot. The rest of the girls (Rachel A., Jade, Rachel M., Tori, and Claire) all really ran well, too. Marcus again took the top spot in the 200 prelims and finals and earned another SQ. Jacob and Turner weren't too far off finals spots either. In the 3200, Brook ran a good race as our sole representative to take 10th. Trey once again wowed with a NEW SCHOOL RECORD in a time of 9:27.41 in earning a SQ. Our girls 800 crew ran well with Adri taking 4th, Katie 8th, and Kyanne in 12th. Zack put up a good time in the guys' race to be our top finisher. Our young boys high jump crew saw good results from Spencer B. and Cayson. The girls did great with Rachel M. and Tori clearing 5-00 to earn SQs. Isi wasn't far off at 4-8, and Brynlee S. cleared 4-6. Robin hit a nice PR in the LJ to be our top finisher at over 14 feet. In the discus, June had a good start to the season with the 3rd furthest throw in our Region. June also led the team in javelin. In the girls' shot put, Tea had our top mark and the top Freshman mark in the entire meet. The boys' shot had a strong Panther presence as Peter and TJ both SQed in taking 3rd and 5th. TJ also recorded our top long jump mark on the guys' team. Not to take it easy, TJ then followed up with some massive throws in the disc to earn a SQ and place 3rd. Galu was right behind in earning his own SQ and taking 5th. To round out our throwing dominance, Sawyer had a great javelin to take 5th and collect another Panther SQ. Overall the girls placed 14th out of 30 scoring teams (this is a placement that will without a doubt be improved on a ton throughout the year... we are a very good team!) and the guys ended up 2nd (so, not to shabby!). This was a tremendous start to the season. With out top performers and strong solid depth to support the team, we are going to be able to do a lot of great things this year.
Thought of the Week: "Commitment is an act, not a word."
-Jean-Paul Sartre
A lot of people like to talk about how good they could be and how they could set records or do this or that. But the reality is that very few actually will do the work needed to accomplish those things. Working hard is... well hard. It is sometimes painful. It is sometimes scary to think you might not actually be as good as you hope. It requires dedication. It requires humility to realize you have room to grow. And because of this, way more people talk than act. And because of this, very few people actually become improve and become great at something. We call this week "Commitment Week" because a lot of you are gone. And since school is out, it is easy to just miss practice. It is easy to stay up late. It is easy to sleep in. It is easy to just say you want to do good. But are you ready to act? We'll see this week.
