Quote of the Week -
"I have so much more respect for the person that will push it. Even if they blow up trying. It's so much more meaningful to push your limits and find where that line is. You don't find that by just sitting around and waiting for someone to take things. You got to go to the front front and make something happen. Most people wait for evidence before they believe in themselves. I just decided to believe in myself first, believe that I would be the best and kind of let the proof come after."
- Tayvon Kitchen
Some of you don't know this guy. He was a high school superstar and this past XC season was the top freshman in the NCAA XC Championships after taking the lead for a time. I love his attitude. How are you going to accomplish amazing things if you don't ever go for it? At this point in the season, each of you have put in the work and are ready to break through. So go take it!

2026 Schedule

We continue to build on our great season. We talked a little last week about where we are sitting as far as Region and State. Our team is really doing well and are in position to accomplish some great things. We did give that challenge to get out a couple more athletes who might make a difference. And we also challenge you to really step up your own commitment and see what you can do to help your team. So stay on top of those grades (or let's get them up right now, so we aren't stressing later); commit to healthy habits in eating, sleep, and mental care (including limiting our phone time); and work on bringing in a positive attitude.

Quote of the Week -
"It's not what happened to you that matters most. It's how you explain it to yourself." - Steve Magness
Obviously, we focus all our quotes and stuff on track and field, but we hope you find ways to implement all this to every aspect of your life. A few of you may go on to be State Champs, compete collegiately, and maybe even do something at the professional level of this sport, but everyone of you will be going through a lot of things in life - and hopefully, something we learn here can resonate with us. So with that in mind, back to the quote... Magness says that the stories we tell ourselves shape how we see the world, how we perform in it, and and we think we are capable of next. This means that when we look at our stories as events of growth and redemption we are more resilient, less depressed, and find more meaning in life. Our brains then use these stories to respond to the next event. So if we see ourselves as competitors, resilient, learning through struggles, and we are optimistic toward the future, we can set ourselves up for more of these thoughts in the future. Think about this as you face pressure (a race, a test) with calm and a positive attitude. Think about this when you are reacting to a disappointing result (a bad race or workout, an injury, a break-up, a bad grade). The experience of stress can be seen as a challenge that can be worked through in a positive way instead of a threat. "Change the story, and you change what you are capable of."

Race Reports -
JV @ Hurr: The JV crew continues to impress. At Hurricane, we had 48 new Personal Records (hey we found the PR Candy Bucket, so PR Candy Bars are coming for a bunch of you!). We also had 3 new Season Records. The boys 2nd and the girls 6th. Some notable achievements: Porter G. with a 1st (jav), 2nd (110 h), 3rd (LJ), and 4th (discus); Ali'i with 3 top 5 finishes; Bennett a 3rd and 4th between the two hurdles; Carson with a sub 5:00 1600 win; 2nd places from Cooper, Jeric, and Liam O. in their events; 3rd places from Will, Zach, and Taite in their events; Ashley ran her first 400 of the year; Katie won the 800; Mia B. 4th in the shot; and Ella 7th in the jav.

Hurricane Invite: With a split squad for the varsity, we hit 18 PRs and 6 SRs at Hurricane. Brennan took 3rd in the 1600; Buns was 6th in the 800; Carson won the Open heat of the 800; Paul 5th in the LJ; Colebin 5th in the 200; Trae 8th in the LJ; Ella took 2nd in the shot with a nice PR putting her in the mix for a State Q; Nely had a nice meet to take 4th in jav and 7th in shot; Mia H. was 4th in the 300h; Julia 5th in the 100h; and Ole took 8th in the HJ.

Arcadia: Some of our teammates headed down to California for the prestigious Arcadia Invite. Our relays did well: the girls 4x800 dropped our SCHOOL RECORD down to 9:22, and the 4x1600 ran another SCHOOL RECORD; the boys Distance Medley Relay set a new SCHOOL RECORD as well. Ashley has a good 100 and 400; our girls DMR and boys 4x800s also ran very well. The biggest stars of the meet were the PV throws crew: Ethan had a tremendous meet. He threw great in the shot, and his disc was tremendous - he threw a 20' PR to win the Rising Stars division, which put him into the Open division which he also won, then advanced to the Invite division and set another new PR (just a foot shy of our school record). Mailey set a huge PR as well in her Discus to win the Open division and earn herself a spot in the Invite section where she once again threw well. Kiera continued the Disc dominance with another SCHOOL RECORD (which would be an new State Record as well if it was thrown in-state) to take 3rd place in the Invite. Then in her Shot she threw well and took 2nd place in the Invite.

Alumni Report - Both Bridger and Jessica ran the Mile for their respective teams at the Weber State meet this week. It's awesome to see our Panther athletes pushing at the next level. As we heard with Coach Thompson's visit this past week, there are a lot of opportunities for you to move into collegiate athletics for those that want to step it up.

Athletes of the Week - Teammates chose Ole, Ben, and Carter B. as Athletes of the Week this past week for their commitment to team, pushing at practice, and improvement in performance.

Youth Track - This Track and Field Skills Camp for 6th-8th graders is designed to help our young athletes learn the skills and basics of a variety of track and field events in a fun and well-coached atmosphere. Skills camp will participate in their own workouts any days of the week from 3:00-4:30p. Spread the word to those who might want to participate.

Quote of the Week -
"One the greatest competitive advantages is having fun." - Brad Stulberg
Society often romanticizes the athlete that is ultra-competitive, the athlete that is fueled by anger and resentment. Why? It creates a great story - "Athlete A never sleeps, never goes out, never smiles... he just works out driven by a desire to become the greatest and crush his competition." Now, sometimes you do have to flip the switch and really get after it. Nonetheless, Stulberg tells us, "...the truth is that if you're not having fun, you aren't going to last long at whatever it is you do, and you certainly won't get the best out of yourself. Not every day has to be great, but you've got to learn to find joy in the totality of the journey. There's this foolish misnomer that you either have to be full of intensity or full of joy. But that's nonsense. Joy and intensity, struggle and fun, can coexist, and in the best performers, they ... always do."

Alumni Report - Trey ran the 10,000 on the track for the first time and said he had a great learning experience running the 25 laps in 30:55. Colton took 8th in the Shot for SUU at the UNLV meet throwing 48'

Athletes of the Week - Congrats to Brennan, Naomi, and Ella for being chosen by their teammates as Athletes of the Week. All three bring an awesome attitude, are great teammates, and work hard every day.
