It's championship season! Congrats everyone on a great season... it's not over for everyone, but we want to thank everyone who came out this year and saw great success through the hard work and dedication that this lifestyle requires.
At our JV Championships, we saw a lot of good racing and PR's. Kobe finished up his season with a PR in the 100, 200, and LJ. James PR'ed in the 200. Parker and Jaron PR'ed in the 400 and took home top 8 finishes. Tavin and Landon PR'ed in the 1600. Julian, Colben and Jaron PR'ed in the jav. The boys also saw Landon PR'ing in the LJ and Dallin PR'ing in both jumps! On the girls' side, we got PR's from Yrene in the 100, 200, and 400; Seanne and Kathya in the 400; Po and Teuila in the jav; and Teuila also PR'ed in the LJ.
Although a few JV athletes qualified to finish up their seasons at Herriman, most finished up the year with this meet. We just want to let all of them know that they are the heart of this program! Again, thanks for coming out this season, and we look forward to you coming out again next year (and bringing a few more friends now that you have seen how fun track is!) Take a few minutes and think about your season, what you did well, what you can do better with; and then, keep up those things you are doing great at and work on your weaknesses and turn them into strengths for the future. All those who aren't competing anymore, should be heading into your breaks. Use this time to recover from the long season. Heal up a bit if you've been injured. Go out and do a few other active things: swim, bike, hike, keep lifting, yoga, etc... Those who are headed into XC, take the time you need off, then start building back up with easy 10-25 minute runs and be ready for the official start of XC on June 5th.
At the Herriman Twilight Meet, we were able to continue to add to our list of State Qualifiers. In the first race of the day, our girls medley ran a season best and easily qualified. It was a great run by Kaylani, Josie, Jada, and Jacey (who had to jump out of the suburban and get to the line with no warm up after a long day of AP testing!). Our next qualifiers were the 4x100 boys. In only their second attempt this season, the team of Colin, Jacob, Michael, and Samson ran a great race to hit their StateQ. Our final StateQ was a sub 2:00 first for Alex in the 800!
Great job everyone. Now we turn out attention to the Region 9 Championships at Cedar HS on Wednesday and Thursday. The goal of the meet will be to pull in as many State Qualifiers as possible. So get physically and mentally ready for the big push it takes to achieve such an elite status.
Info for Region: I'm not going to post the bus time yet, until I know for sure that the bus time won't be changed! But we will be leaving toward the end of the school day on Wednesday and Thursday and heading up to Cedar HS. The meet starts at 4:00p both days. We would really ask that all our Varsity athletes plan on staying throughout the whole meet. Stay and cheer on your teammates! We may invite a few JV athletes to come up with the team for support and spirit.
