I've left this past week with just a lot of positive vibes... are you feeling it too? The team is blending, people are improving, our goals are coming into sight. It's been a very fun season so far. Not to say things are going perfect. We're dealing with some key injuries right now, sometimes a performances doesn't match our effort, and its often hard to balance out practice, homework, and all the other demands of life. But we'll mention those downs (and the ups that accompany them) later with our thought. Parents, we want to say thanks for all your support - not only for your athlete, but for the team. As a parent myself, I know its easy to develop a tunnel-vision and think only of what your son/daughter is doing and kind of forget that they are part of a bigger TEAM vision that we are working on. So thanks for looking to support not only your athlete, but also the support of the TEAM you show when you are all-in to your kid being involved and at practice and at meets helping the whole TEAM accomplish our goals. And athletes, the same thing to you. It is so cool to see so many of you set aside yourself to work for our TEAM goals. Not to say that you aren't pushing yourself, but rather, you are pushing yourself keeping in mind how important each and everyone of you are to what we are continually working to build at Pine View Track and Field. Let's have another great week coming up!

BYU Invite - Fri and Sat 5/7-8
For Sentinel and BYU, we will be leaving Friday 5/7 in the morning for those who have hit the qualifying marks and compete at Mt. Ridge HS on Friday afternoon-evening. We will then stay overnight and then most of the team will leave back to home Saturday morning so you can get back for the dance hopefully around noon (so plan your dates around that please). A few (very few) athletes will stay up and run at BYU on Saturday. Sorry we don't have a solid idea on who's competing at BYU; we are waiting for them to finalize their schedule.
Race Recaps:
JV @ SC - Have we mentioned that our JV crew is really good?! Another great meet as we develop our younger athletes and show off our depth. In the 1600 Madeline broke 6:00 for the first time and took 3rd. Jenna took 7th and Allison 10th. Allen continues to show great improvement and took 5th followed by Gaige and Talmage in 8th and 9th. Braxton continues to show he's one of the top freshmen hurdlers in the region with a 2nd place in the 110s. Maxx took the win in the 100s in a close finish over Doug running his first timed race. Benson was our 3rd Panther in the top 10 with an 8th place finish. In the 4x800 both the guys and girls took 2nd. The ladies in the 4x100 took 7th and the guys ran well and took 1st. Macy placed 7th in the 400 and the girls' side and Zack J. did the same for the boys with a big PR. Dom H. ran a strong 3rd in his first 300h. In the 800 our top finisher was Laney with an 8th place finish. While Eli and Porter took 6th and 9th with nice PRs for the boys. Our boys 4x200 took home the win. And Carson and Coleman went 2-3 in the 3200. Benson had a very strong 200 to take 2nd and was followed in the top 10 by Doug in 5th, Payton in 7th, and Eli in 10th. Dom H. took home another W in the LJ. In the jav, Daytona and Amber took 4th and 8th, and Sawyer had a great first meet to take first with a throw of over 146'. The trio of Brodie, TJ and Franklin all threw within 3" of each other to take 4th-6th. The rest of the throws crew keeps improving as well. The boys shot had TJ place 2nd and Nomee 4th. Nomee looked even better in the disc with a first place finish and a throw over 100'. Barlow had a good throw as well to take 6th. Lali placed 10th in the shot and 12th in the disc. Talmage cleared 5' in the HJ for the first time to take 9th. Hannah had a 10th place jump in the LJ. Other strong performances included Emma and Makenna's continued improvement in the 300h and Paris' strong races in the 100 and 200. Overall, the boys depth led them to another JV win scoring 159 points to Hurricane's (2nd) 102. The girls were 6th among the region teams.
Orem Tiger Trial - We split our Varsity squad between two meets this weekend. Some of the top athletes headed to the Orem Tiger Trials while the rest of team went to Cedar. Rachel had a PR in the 100 and 200. Madi and Arden also ran well. Marcus and Dom went 1st and 2nd in the 100 with wind legal 10.63 and 10.69 times. Adri ran the fastest time of our girls 1600 crew placing 15th and Boston led our boys team. Alli had a top 10 finish in the 400 and Jason recorded our best boys' time. Alli ran a patient race in a fiesty 800 to take the win. Speaking of fiesty 800s, Zack survived his wicked wipe out so that was good. Our girls 4x800 team of Kyanne, Pyper, Adri, and Alli took 4th while setting a new school record. And the girls 4x100 team of Maddy, Rachel, MacKenzie, and Arden took 6th. In the LJ, Marcus took 2nd with the 2nd best performance in PV history recording 5 jumps over 22' including a 22-06. Kemp also went over 20' for the first time. Maddy earned her State Q with a 4th place jump of 16-08. The highlight of the day was the boys' 200. Kemp earned his SQ with a 23.04 and Dom and Marcus ran the two fastest times in Utah history with wind legal 21.01 and 21.10 times! In running the current #2 and #4 times in the nation, Dom and Marcus both went under the previous all-time Utah record of 21.12.
Cedar Invite - Meanwhile in a very windy Cedar, fast times were hard to come by, but we still had some great performances. The performance of the day was earned by Nalu with his State Qualifying 138'04" throw and 2nd place finish in the disc! Other noteable performances were Allison's 10th place finish in the open 1600 and Ben's 4th place in the boys event; Eli took 5th and Tyson 9th in the open 400; Tyson ran a strong 2nd in the open 200 (into an insane 10.3 headwind - over 23 mph); Kennis battled the wind for 2 miles to place 5th and Bentley did the same for a 10th place finish; Our girls 4x800 team placed 4th; the boys 4x100 took 6th. Dom H. took 4th in the open LJ; Nalu hit a big PR in the shot to take 2nd in the open; Payton earned a 7th place in the open disc with his 100+' throw; and Emma and Daytona took 8th and 10th in the open jav; and Carter's HJ tied for 5th.
Alumni Update: Julien got back on the track with his first mile race ever for DSU.

Don't get caught up on the idea of "the running gods" (especially with a BYU guy saying it!)... what he is saying is that sometimes things work out and we perform awesome and sometimes we don't. No matter - the key thing is to keep on pushing. Because in reality the thing that you can control is how hard you are working. AND THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THAT HARD WORK IS *CONSISTENCY*. Many people can work hard for a day, a week, or even a month. But are you going to keep working hard for a full season, multiple seasons, in the off-season, even when injuries seem to be giving you huge setbacks or you feel like you just aren't making any progress and everyone else is? That's where the true champions are born. No one achieved any greatness (in anything) who didn't have to overcome and learn from some adversity first. So the question for you is... are you going to get up tomorrow and be ready to work, are you going to work all week, for the next month until Region and State, beyond? If the answer is "yes" to all of those questions, I promise (and so does Coach Eyestone) it "will lead to eventual excellence".
