It's been a great journey this year. As some of you have finished up your racing this year, we want to thank you for all the hard work you've put in and for playing an imporant role on the team as teammates and examples. And for those of you who still have a little to go with Region and (hopefully) State, let's keep pushing hard and not rest on the great things we've done so far. Let's go finish it off in a way that brings us joy.
Region plans (and State plans) are coming together, but aren't finalized yet. As coaches, we still have a few things we want to move around. So feel free to check on runnercard about who is participating in what, but know that some of that may/will change. Monday at practice, we will finalize it all in our team meeting after Covid testing; so please be there. Those JV runners who won't be competing, we invite you to keep comeing out for the next two weeks, and we really invite you to come out to watch and cheer at Region!
Athletes of the Week: Congrats to all our Athletes of the Week from last week. I'm sure you are all awesome, I just forgot to write it down (sorry!) . Keep nominating teammates from each discipline: Sprint, Field, and Distance. Nominate your teammates who best exemplify our philosophy of hard work, commitment, and those who did great things this week. This recognition will come solely from your nominations, so we need them.
Athlete of the Week form. Or text coach on our Remind with your nominees.

Meet Schedule
Race Recaps:
JV Region - Very solid meet for JV Region. We took the approach that pretty much anyone competing in events at Region wouldn't be competing at JV Region. Not all teams took that same approach; as such that bumped us down a little compared to where our JV crew has placed all year. Nonetheless, we had many great performances. Jenna and Kennis took 3rd and 7th in the 1600. Camden took 6th in the 110s. Benson took 7th in the 100. Our girls 4x800 took 1st and the boys took 2nd. The boys 4x100 took 4th. Brianna took 2nd in the 400. Eli also took 2nd in the 400 and was followed by Zack in 4th. In the 800, Macy took 7th and Laney 9th. And Porter went 9th and Elijah 10th for the boys. The girls 4x200 team took 3rd and the boys took 4th. In the 200, Benson took 4th and Payton 10th. The 4x400 had the girls take 1st and the boys take 2nd. Dominic took 3rd in the long jump and Lauren took 8th for the girls. Payton took 9th in the disc. Parker was 6th in the high jump. Hyrum took 4th in the javelin with Seedar 8th and Shan 10th. Braedon took 4th and Payton 10th in the shot. Overall, this placed the girls 6th and the boys 4th in the standings. We just want to say thanks, again, to our amazing JV athletes. Some of you are graduating and moving on - you've meant a lot to this team; thanks for you example - some of you will be coming back next year - keep working hard, and let's build on the great things from this year to have an even better one next year!
Sentinel Twilight Invite - Despite the poor weather, we had a strong meet on both the boys and girls side up at Mt. Ridge. We used this meet as a reward for our top qualifiers - thus leaving home some athletes that could have filled in to spots to round out relays and other places that could have helped our score even more. Despite this, the girls took 7th (just 9 points behind DH) and the boys took 3rd (just 1 point behind DH). Amber made finals in the jav and took 8th. On the boys' side, Bice, Doug, and Sawyer all made finals. They finished 8th, 6th, and 2nd respectively, with Saywer's big throw setting a PR and earning a State Qualifier. In the high jump, Lucca took 7th. Marcus and Dom went 1, 2 in the long jump and Dom earned his State Qualifier. Brynlee and Rachel went 3rd and 5th in the 200. Boston ran a strong 800 to take 2nd. And Adri took 8th in the girls' 800. In the 400 Jason took 6th and Alli took 2nd in their respective races. The boys' 4x100 took 5th and the girls took 2nd. Brooklyn and Kate placed 6th and 7th in the 1600. In the 4x200, the boys ran a new all divisions State Record with a time of 1:26.80. Marcus and Dom went 1, 2 in the 100 into the big wind that was blowing all day. And Arden and Brynlee battled that same wind to take 7th and 8th. In the 110s, Josh placed 6th. And in the 4x400, the boys ran well (place and results not upload yet?), and the girls ran to a strong 2nd place finish.
BYU Invite - A few members of the team stayed up to race at BYU on Saturday. Kate and Adri ran well in the 1600. Brooklyn and Pyper ran PRs in the 800, and Katie ran well also. Alli ran her best 800 of the year and the number 2 time in Utah this year to take 2nd. And Dom had two very good 200s. In the prelims, he became the first Utah HSer to ever break 21 seconds - with a 20.96 - breaking his own State Record. Then in the finals, Dom ran a spectacular 20.73w (with a +3.6 wind) to take the win over some great competition.
Thought of the Week: "Team culture is built on faith, love and trust. But the foundation must always be gratitude. Gratitude should always be the entry point to all we do in life."
-Diljeet Taylor (BYU coach)
We've talked a lot about building a team this year... and we've done a pretty good job of it. It has been a very fun experience seeing so many of you buy into the program and buy into helping each other (and us) do great things. As coaches, we really are grateful for all of your hard work, your time commitment, you desire to improve and achieve. We're grateful that you care - so the days that aren't so great, you get upset about; and the days that are great, you are so happy about. We're grateful that you are part of this experience and that we are part of it as well. Whatever the next couple weeks bring, nothing will change the wonderful experiences we've all had. So as we approach this championship time of the season, set aside your worries and fears, and remember that none of us - coaches, teammates, parents - will love you any more or any less because of good or bumma results. We all love you because we are grateful that we've experienced part of this journey with you.
