Quote of the Week -
"Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity, but doing it."
 - Greg Anderson
Maybe a weird quote at the end of the season and we have accomplished great things and are looking to even do better at State, but ultimately no matter what happens at State, this season has been amazing. The growth of each of you individually and as a team, seeing your joy in accomplishing PRs and things that you may not have even thought were possible, forming memories that will last a lifetime - these are the things that this is all about. So as we approach State, now is not a time to stress and be worried. You've done all the work you can do. No is a time to relax and have some fun! Let's go give it our best shot and make some more memories in the process.

BYU & Sentinel Invites - We got a few more qualifiers this weekend: Brodie in the shot, Kwade in the 200, the boys 4x100, and Seedar in the jav.  Also a huge congrats to TJ on breaking his SCHOOL RECORD once again in the discus (although it feels like we have seen this many times, and we have, don't take for granted how amazing a school record is!). Sorry I don't have to write much more today, but good job to many new PRs (we're looking at you thrower ladies) and medalists. Also, thanks so much for making the trip as stress-free as possible under weird hotel circumstances, and for just being great people that do great things especially when were in the community. Sentinel Meet Results. BYU Meet Results. Performance Chart (not updated yet... ahhh time!)

Quote of the Week -
"You have your best races when you don't put too much pressure on yourself to hit a certain time."
 - Ali Ince
Track and Field can be such a numbers driven sport - we have SQs to hit and school records, wind readings and individual and team sports. But when it ultimately comes down to it, we do our very best when we set all this aside and just COMPETE! That's what these last two weeks are about... competing. You can set aside times and all that other stuff, and just go out there and compete to your very best ability on that given day. And when we do that, our best marks will show up, State Qualifiers will happen, and our team and individual places will be what we want. All because we can now set everything else aside and just go COMPETE!

Also, congrats to our new school record holders: Bridger and Kate in the 3200, the girls in the 4x100, and the girls in the 4x800. It was really the team effort that helped both the girls and the boys to the Invite championships, though. We had a ton of medalists and every one of you is providing points. Our depth was really on display in many events as we often had 2-5 point scorers all over the place.  Meet ResultsPerformance Chart

Quote of the Week -
"Starting strong is good. Finishing strong is epic."
 - Robin Sharma
We really have had a tremendous season. Probably the best track teams in PV history! So let's finish that way. Every single athlete on this team is part of what we are doing. So whether you are finishing up with your last race this week at JV Region or Sentinel, or you are moving on to Region, or State, let's have everyone give a huge effort and pull together for an amazing team finish!

April 22 - 27

Another great week. We really loved Coach Janz's thoughts about how not every day or every race is going to be the best or a PR, but by building the average/regular days and results you can create a new floor from which you can then keep pushing toward new heights. Not every day is going to be great, but that doesn't mean they are horrid.

Jade hit a blazing 12.23 in the 100 (the #2 in PV history); Ashley's 12.46 in the prelims is our 4th fastest time in PV history. We also saw some strong improvement from Brianna hitting a big PR; Kwade hit an excellent 100 which was just over the allowable wind for an SQ; Quincy also hit a nice PR in the 100; other big PRs: Braxton in the 110h, Ashley and Elsie in the 200, Bridger with a near school record performance in a big 800 win, Jordyn in the 800, Aspen and Brynlee in the discus, Piper in the jav, Colton in the discus and shot (congrats on the win there), and Kate and Talmage may have hit school records in the steeple (gotta double check). Performance Chart (welcome Colton to the 1100 point club and Jade to the 1000 point club - also, we have broken last year's record of most athletes making the 500 point mark; great job Panthers!).

Quote of the Week -
"The real test is not whether you avoid failure, because you won't. It's whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere."
 - Barack Obama
It might feel like we put up a lot of quotes about like overcoming struggles and stuff. Well... that's because maybe it's one of the biggest lessons we can all learn from this sport of track and field. And ultimately, your life probably won't change a whole lot if you run a state qualifying mark or hit a personal record in your throw, but learning to overcome difficulties and continuing to grow and seeking to do your best will most definitely affect your life. We are so proud of all of you who have continued to strive to do your best even through the ups and downs of a season. And remember, let's enjoy those good times, too!

Everyone can be a leader. You don't have to be a senior or the best on the team. A leader is someone who cares more about others than self. And often, you find your greatest individual success when you quit worrying about it and start helping others.

RACE REPORT
Hurricane Invite - Full results here. Dealing with the elements in Hurricane is always a growing experience. But great job to those who went with a positive attitude and completed all your events with your best effort. Good job to Carter and Kyle Rimmasch who took 4th and 6th in the 400; Carter, Jake, and Kyle Rim. who went 2nd, 3rd, and 6th in the 800; Talmage for 3rd in the 1600; Braxton on 6th in the 300h; Ethan on winning the shot and Brodie in 4th, George 6th and Frank 7th; Ethan also won the discus, Brodie 2nd, Kevin 4th, and Frank 5th (our throws crew is off the charts!); we also saw some nice progress from Paul in his jumps Elliot in his 800 and 1600 (where he is quickly becoming one of the top Freshmen in PV history); Ashley had a great meet with a 2nd in the 100, 5th in the 200, and winning the LJ; Katie F. placed 7th in the 800 and 8th in the 1600; Chloe took 5th in the discus; and Claire 4th in the HJ.
Desert Hills Invite - Full results here. Thanks to those who helped take some of the team to Arcadia. It was well worth the trip and our athletes represented well. Bridger hit a new school record in the 1600 while en route to his 2nd place finish in the Open Mile (he placed 12th overall in the whole meet!). The boys running the 4x1600 hit a new school record. TJ tied his school record in the discus and placed 11th overall; he also threw the shot well and placed 13th overall.  Colton was 8th in the Open shot and 14th in the Open discus. Tori went up against the best HJers in the nation and placed 17th in the Invite section. And our girls distance medley placed 4th in the Open with a mark that is 13th in the nation. Performance Chart

Quote of the Week -
"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts."
 - Winston Churchill
Seems like a good quote at around the half-way point of a season. Some are succeeding, some are not feeling like they are doing quite what they'd like. But not matter; if your doing great - awesome, but you still aren't done. If you're struggline - guess what, your still alive and get more shots at doing better. The real battle is the one to keep going. There's a lot of people who started with our team back in late Feb who aren't coming out anymore. It really is a bummer because we could use everyone (and everyone could use the lessons you learn in track & field). But you who are still around are truly amazing. Because thick or thin, you keep coming out and trying. And I truly believe that with a real effort marked with consistency, you will always end up improving - in track and in life.

April 1 - 6

Very well done this week Panthers. A strong JV and Varsity meet with a lot of improvements. It really is exciting to see the growth of everyone on the team. Remember that your improvement, and the improvement of our team, is really based upon your commitment: Your commitment to be to practice and work hard. Your commitment to be doing well in school so you don't have to miss practice. Your commitment to each other - showing that you care about everyone's effort and that they are important to you.

RACE REPORT
JV @ Hurr - Full results here. Great meet with a ton of PRs (we're gonna need more candy!). Some of our top finishers: Carson 6th in the 200; Jake 4th in the 400; 800 - Kyle Rim. 1st, Brennan 2nd, Carson 3rd, Elliot 4th, Ben 6th, Liam 7th; 1600 - Evan 1st, Carter R. 2nd, Liam 3rd, Elliot 4th, Ben 5th, Parker 7th; Jacoby 7th in the 110h and 2nd in the 300h; George wins the shot; Ethan 2nd in the Jav and Cayson 4th; Parker 3rd in HJ and Nick 8th; Isaak 4th in LJ; Julia 8th in the 200; Sariah 8th in the 800; Jordyn 1st in the 1600, Katie K. 2nd, and Laney 8th; Sylvia 8th in the discus; Piper 4th in jav and 4th in HJ. We had a lot of other great performances as well. The team is really improving and showing tremendous growth. Overall the boys took 2nd and the girls 6th.
Desert Hills Invite - Full results here. A whole new round of SQs: Jade and Ashley in the 100; Ashley also hit her LJ mark in her first meet; and Jade got her SQ in the 400; Chloe became our first girl to hit the disc mark in many years; Brodie in the disc; Kate in her 800; Claire in the HJ; Emmalee in the 1600; Trevor also in the 1600; and both our 4x400s ran terrific races to hit the State mark. Both teams took 3rd overall (which is pretty impressive considering the number of athletes we took out of finals to focus on qualifying other events). Extra shout out to Tori whose 100h prelims race moved her into the top 20 marks all time for PV Track and Field based on our Performance Chart. And a huge congrats to TJ who broke his own school record in the discus not only once, but twice!, with a final throw of 174-11 and moving to 5th all-time on our performance chart.

Quote of the Week -
"To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift."
 - Steve Prefontaine
Distance runners will all know Pre (or they better) as an Oregon runner, and Nike innovator, who raced hard and from the front; always giving his best effort and becoming a symbol of the American running boom of the late '60s and early '70s. He is also known for his inspirational quotes that reflected his passionate racing style and work ethic. This quote is one of my favorites, but it is topped by another quote that is a play off of this one. I couldn't find the exact wording of it and who said it, but it goes along these lines: To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice someone else's gift. I like this version a little bit better because I think it highlights what we try and do when bringing a track team together. Everyone is all over the place doing our own workouts and competing at our own events. So it is pretty easy to just glide along. In reality, though, we are one unit... a team. A team of many parts, personalities, and efforts. When we don't give our very best, we are basically saying that we don't care about the effort of our teammates. Subsequently, however, when we show up every day, and do our best every day (even when sometimes that "best" is a little off) when we give our best every day, we are telling every one of our teammates (and coaches, and parents, and friends) that their effort matters and that we care for them and respect them.

Mar. 24 - 30

Probably not going to write a lot today because we're all still tired and recovering for at least one more day. But... THANK YOU SO MUCH TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP AT THE INVITE! Athletes who helped with anything (set-up, take-down, hurdles, finish, events, crowd control, trash clean-up, holding tents down, and whatever else), Parents with events and food and concessions and dinner and supporting your kids and supporting the team, and coaches for everything. It was an amazing feat that we pulled off this meet with so few snags. AND, it was the most successful and awesome PV Invite ever! Holy crap it was an amazing meet. You are all great. Now we can chill and focus on hitting some great marks for a few weeks.

RACE REPORT
Panther Relays - We started the busy week with a fun meet at the Relays. Some super times were run and we had a good time.
Pine View Invite - Full results here. Like so many others, we had some awesome things happen at the meet. We had a few new SQs (State Qualifiers): Elle in the 1600, Tori in the 300h, Jade and Ashley in the 200, both the boys and girls 4x800, the girls 4x100, and Bridger in the 800. We also had a few improve on previous state marks. And, we had some podium finishers: Tea 4th in the MVP shot, TJ 2nd in the MVP disc, Tori 3rd in the MVP hj, Jade 3rd in the Invite 200, boys 4x800 3rd, TJ 1st and Colton 3rd in the MVP shot, Bridger 1st in the Invite 800, and Seedar 3rd in the Invite jav. Also we had a ton of PRs that we'll celebrate tomorrow. In the team standings, the boys placed 3rd and the girls 12th - very impressive for this meet. Again thanks to everyone for helping pull off this amazing event. Performance Chart

Alumni Report: Carson Horspool took 4th for Weber St. at the Utah Tech Invite in the 5000m running a time of 14:48.55.

Quote of the Week -
"5 Things That Tell How Committed an Athlete Is:
1. What time they arrive at practice
2. The attitude they bring
3. Their openness to feedback
4. The questions they ask
5. The extra work they're willing to do"
 - Allistair McCaw
We're kind of at the mid-season mark and many of you are starting to figure out if you really want to do this track thing. I've heard many of you make comments about goals you'd like to achieve, and we did our little $10 million check visualization last week. All this is great, but now it comes down to actually doing the work. And the work is all about being committed. How committed are you to your goals and how committed are you to our TEAM? Whether track is your #1 sport or something that you do to support you in other endeavors, honestly evaluating yourself in these 5 areas, will make you better individually and make you a better teammate as we strive for our TEAM goals.

             32nd Annual Pine View Invitational

white.jpgsponsored by MVP Sports

 Date: Friday, March 22nd 2:00 p.m.    Saturday, March 23rd 9:00 a.m.

Who: All Utah 1A-6A track teams

Where:  Pine View High School –                 St. George, Utah

REGISTRATION DUE TUESDAY, MARCH 19th, 11:59p

PLEASE NOTE DAYS OF EVENTS YOUR ATHLETES WILL BE IN - as some events are run on Fri and some are run on Sat

CONTINUING IN 2024 - We will be splitting the meet into two sessions: a PV Invitational session and an MVP Sports Championship session. To facilitate the change, WE WILL NOT HAVE PRELIMS IN ANY EVENT - ALL EVENTS WILL BE FINALS ONLY. The PV Invite session will include the larger numbers of heats and flights which will be seeded according to the registered seed mark. The MVP Sports Championship session will take the top two heats of sprint events and the top flights of field events. (Coaches please sign up your top athletes for the MVP Sports Championship session). Each team is allowed 50 entries per gender (not including relays).

**** CHANGES **** WE HAVE MOVED THE 100m MVP SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP HEATS TO FRIDAY AFTERNOON (and the PV Invite heats to Saturday). THE 4X200 WILL ALSO BE HELD FRIDAY EVENING.

1 - As this is an early season meet, seed marks may be a best mark from the 2023 season or a 2023 time trial/indoor/outdoor meet - if an athlete does not have a mark from 2023-’24, the athlete may be entered into the meet and will be placed in the PV Invite session (exception is the 1600 and 3200 meter races which have a hard time standard that must be met). To be placed in the Championship Session, athletes MUST have a legitimate time/mark entered - (we must be able to verify where time/mark was earned). Coaches should enter athletes in the session of their choice (PV Invite session or MVP Sports Championship session) and meet organizers will adjust the entries to the appropriate heat sizes (possibly moving athletes out of the Championship heats into the Invite heats).

2 - Please use these time standards for registering runners (* 3200 and 1600 events are hard standards - times must be met or athletes will be removed from the event / 400,200,100 are suggested standards to keep the meet competitive and entries somewhat limited - coaches please dutifully consider the registration of athletes that will not meet these marks):
