Very well done this week Panthers. A strong JV and Varsity meet with a lot of improvements. It really is exciting to see the growth of everyone on the team. Remember that your improvement, and the improvement of our team, is really based upon your commitment: Your commitment to be to practice and work hard. RACE REPORT
JV @ Hurr - Full results here. Great meet with a ton of PRs (we're gonna need more candy!). Some of our top finishers: Carson 6th in the 200; Jake 4th in the 400; 800 - Kyle Rim. 1st, Brennan 2nd, Carson 3rd, Elliot 4th, Ben 6th, Liam 7th; 1600 - Evan 1st, Carter R. 2nd, Liam 3rd, Elliot 4th, Ben 5th, Parker 7th; Jacoby 7th in the 110h and 2nd in the 300h; George wins the shot; Ethan 2nd in the Jav and Cayson 4th; Parker 3rd in HJ and Nick 8th; Isaak 4th in LJ; Julia 8th in the 200; Sariah 8th in the 800; Jordyn 1st in the 1600, Katie K. 2nd, and Laney 8th; Sylvia 8th in the discus; Piper 4th in jav and 4th in HJ. We had a lot of other great performances as well. The team is really improving and showing tremendous growth. Overall the boys took 2nd and the girls 6th.
Desert Hills Invite - Full results here. A whole new round of SQs: Jade and Ashley in the 100; Ashley also hit her LJ mark in her first meet; and Jade got her SQ in the 400; Chloe became our first girl to hit the disc mark in many years; Brodie in the disc; Kate in her 800; Claire in the HJ; Emmalee in the 1600; Trevor also in the 1600; and both our 4x400s ran terrific races to hit the State mark. Both teams took 3rd overall (which is pretty impressive considering the number of athletes we took out of finals to focus on qualifying other events). Extra shout out to Tori whose 100h prelims race moved her into the top 20 marks all time for PV Track and Field based on our Performance Chart. And a huge congrats to TJ who broke his own school record in the discus not only once, but twice!, with a final throw of 174-11 and moving to 5th all-time on our performance chart.

Quote of the Week -
"To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift."
 - Steve Prefontaine
Distance runners will all know Pre (or they better) as an Oregon runner, and Nike innovator, who raced hard and from the front; always giving his best effort and becoming a symbol of the American running boom of the late '60s and early '70s. He is also known for his inspirational quotes that reflected his passionate racing style and work ethic. This quote is one of my favorites, but it is topped by another quote that is a play off of this one. I couldn't find the exact wording of it and who said it, but it goes along these lines: To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice someone else's gift. I like this version a little bit better because I think it highlights what we try and do when bringing a track team together. Everyone is all over the place doing our own workouts and competing at our own events. So it is pretty easy to just glide along. In reality, though, we are one unit... a team. A team of many parts, personalities, and efforts. When we don't give our very best, we are basically saying that we don't care about the effort of our teammates. Subsequently, however, when we show up every day, and do our best every day (even when sometimes that "best" is a little off) when we give our best every day, we are telling every one of our teammates (and coaches, and parents, and friends) that their effort matters and that we care for them and respect them.

Mar. 24 - 30

Probably not going to write a lot today because we're all still tired and recovering for at least one more day. But... THANK YOU SO MUCH TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP AT THE INVITE! Athletes who helped with anything (set-up, take-down, hurdles, finish, events, crowd control, trash clean-up, holding tents down, and whatever else), Parents with events and food and concessions and dinner and supporting your kids and supporting the team, and coaches for everything. It was an amazing feat that we pulled off this meet with so few snags. AND, it was the most successful and awesome PV Invite ever! Holy crap it was an amazing meet. You are all great. Now we can chill and focus on hitting some great marks for a few weeks.

RACE REPORT
Panther Relays - We started the busy week with a fun meet at the Relays. Some super times were run and we had a good time.
Pine View Invite - Full results here. Like so many others, we had some awesome things happen at the meet. We had a few new SQs (State Qualifiers): Elle in the 1600, Tori in the 300h, Jade and Ashley in the 200, both the boys and girls 4x800, the girls 4x100, and Bridger in the 800. We also had a few improve on previous state marks. And, we had some podium finishers: Tea 4th in the MVP shot, TJ 2nd in the MVP disc, Tori 3rd in the MVP hj, Jade 3rd in the Invite 200, boys 4x800 3rd, TJ 1st and Colton 3rd in the MVP shot, Bridger 1st in the Invite 800, and Seedar 3rd in the Invite jav. Also we had a ton of PRs that we'll celebrate tomorrow. In the team standings, the boys placed 3rd and the girls 12th - very impressive for this meet. Again thanks to everyone for helping pull off this amazing event. Performance Chart

Alumni Report: Carson Horspool took 4th for Weber St. at the Utah Tech Invite in the 5000m running a time of 14:48.55.

Quote of the Week -
"5 Things That Tell How Committed an Athlete Is:
1. What time they arrive at practice
2. The attitude they bring
3. Their openness to feedback
4. The questions they ask
5. The extra work they're willing to do"
 - Allistair McCaw
We're kind of at the mid-season mark and many of you are starting to figure out if you really want to do this track thing. I've heard many of you make comments about goals you'd like to achieve, and we did our little $10 million check visualization last week. All this is great, but now it comes down to actually doing the work. And the work is all about being committed. How committed are you to your goals and how committed are you to our TEAM? Whether track is your #1 sport or something that you do to support you in other endeavors, honestly evaluating yourself in these 5 areas, will make you better individually and make you a better teammate as we strive for our TEAM goals.

Pine View Invite Info

             32nd Annual Pine View Invitational

white.jpgsponsored by MVP Sports

 Date: Friday, March 22nd 2:00 p.m.    Saturday, March 23rd 9:00 a.m.

Who: All Utah 1A-6A track teams

Where:  Pine View High School –                 St. George, Utah

REGISTRATION DUE TUESDAY, MARCH 19th, 11:59p

PLEASE NOTE DAYS OF EVENTS YOUR ATHLETES WILL BE IN - as some events are run on Fri and some are run on Sat

CONTINUING IN 2024 - We will be splitting the meet into two sessions: a PV Invitational session and an MVP Sports Championship session. To facilitate the change, WE WILL NOT HAVE PRELIMS IN ANY EVENT - ALL EVENTS WILL BE FINALS ONLY. The PV Invite session will include the larger numbers of heats and flights which will be seeded according to the registered seed mark. The MVP Sports Championship session will take the top two heats of sprint events and the top flights of field events. (Coaches please sign up your top athletes for the MVP Sports Championship session). Each team is allowed 50 entries per gender (not including relays).

**** CHANGES **** WE HAVE MOVED THE 100m MVP SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP HEATS TO FRIDAY AFTERNOON (and the PV Invite heats to Saturday). THE 4X200 WILL ALSO BE HELD FRIDAY EVENING.

1 - As this is an early season meet, seed marks may be a best mark from the 2023 season or a 2023 time trial/indoor/outdoor meet - if an athlete does not have a mark from 2023-’24, the athlete may be entered into the meet and will be placed in the PV Invite session (exception is the 1600 and 3200 meter races which have a hard time standard that must be met). To be placed in the Championship Session, athletes MUST have a legitimate time/mark entered - (we must be able to verify where time/mark was earned). Coaches should enter athletes in the session of their choice (PV Invite session or MVP Sports Championship session) and meet organizers will adjust the entries to the appropriate heat sizes (possibly moving athletes out of the Championship heats into the Invite heats).

2 - Please use these time standards for registering runners (* 3200 and 1600 events are hard standards - times must be met or athletes will be removed from the event / 400,200,100 are suggested standards to keep the meet competitive and entries somewhat limited - coaches please dutifully consider the registration of athletes that will not meet these marks):
