More PV INVITE STUFF: This is obviously our invite. And it is big! We need all athletes to plan being there and helping. We also need parent help: We will need help in the concessions, and we will need help at the field events (you don't need any skill at these - there will be an experienced coach/official at each event - but we need help on Friday afternoon from 2:00p to event completion and Saturday from 8:00a to event completion. Parents, PLEASE use the sign ups on the Parent-Athlete meeting slide show above. We also need drink donations (assignments): Boys team and Senior girls - 20oz sports drink (gatorade/powerade...). Jr./Soph./Fresh. girls - water bottles (usually they are 16.9oz). Everyone bring what you can. The more, the better. We will sell them at the meet, and we will use any extras to take to other meets for our team.
Youth Track - This Track and Field Skills Camp for 6th-8th graders is designed to help our young athletes learn the skills and basics of a variety of track and field events in a fun and well-coached atmosphere. Skills camp will participate in their own workouts any days of the week from 3:00-4:30p. Spread the word to those who might want to participate.*This week, look at the above schedule for times*
Quote of the Week -
"NBA superstar Victor Wembanyama broke into tears after Spurs' 25 point comeback against the Clippers. The 'too cool' mentality is a dead end. Trying hard is cool. Pushing yourself to get getter is cool. Stepping into the arena is cool. Caring deeply is cool." - Brad Stulberg
In an Instagram post, Stulberg talks about the importance of caring. He continued on saying, "Somewhere along the way it became uncool to care. But this is nonsense. The only people who say it's not cool to care are the people who are hiding their own fear of failure and insecurities." Over the next few weeks, our team is going to talk about the obstacles we place in the way of our own success; and saying that you don't care - or acting too cool - is a huge obstacle (I think especially for high schoolers). In HS one of the most important things in the world is the acceptance of our peers. And like Stulberg said, "somewhere along the way it became uncool to care." So an aura of nonchalantness arose. Interesting though, acting like you don't care is actually a defense mechanism created by our brains to try and protect us from failure. Unfortunately, however, the reality is that what it stops us from the most is success. When we say we don't care, or use any other excuse, we are allowing ourselves an out in case we don't accomplish what we want most. This is something that has evolved in humans for thousands of years for protection and safety. And that's the exact reason we see so few people truly become great. Because to become great, you have to break through generations of evolution - and that is tough! So how do we do that? In this case... actually care! Let yourself care. Work hard. Put a full good effort into the things you care about. And don't allow the protective excuses dwell in your mind. Instead respond quickly and decisively when doubts and protective negative thoughts appear by telling yourself that you do care and that it actually is okay to not reach a goal, yet. That is not failure, its a step on the path of growth toward your ultimate goal.
