Double Region Champs! Pine View is the Best in the World... not just because we won, but because how our TEAM did it - stepping up and filling in for injuries, competing in a load of events and not complaining, getting out and supporting teammates, and showing up and cheering even if you weren't competing. Very proud of all of you.
Heading into State: there is a lot more uncertainty than ever before about competing at State. If you hit your auto-SQ you are in! Others of you are going to make it by being in the top of non-qualifier marks (that 24, 27, 28, 32 number of qualifiers). And some of you are going to be alternates and may get bumped into the meet up there at state (those who are close should be ready to run; for example, if we have a runner who is number 34 in the 800, which takes 32, they should warm with the team and be ready to roll, then report to the bullpen and see if anyone scratches, and you may get bumped in - we know that isn't super ideal, but it does give you a possibility to compete). We'll know a bit more on Monday after everything is set on Sunday night, then as the week goes on and scratches are made as well. We will be leaving on Thursday at lunch, SO EVERYONE MUST HAVE ALL THEIR SCHOOL STUFF DONE: TESTS TAKEN, ASSIGNMENTS IN, ALL GOOD.

Quote of the Week -
"Steph Curry intentionally smiled before shooting clutch free throws. Eliud Kipchoge smiled in the final miles of the marathon. They're sending signals to their brain. They may be nervous or hurting. But it's okay. They enjoy this. It's a challenge. Embrace it."
- Steve Magness
We want to continue the theme we were talking about last week with being able to help your perform your best, especially when you get nervous and the stage gets big. Magness' stories of Curry and Kipchoge (two of the greatest big-game performers of all-time) is backed by science. He says, "researchers found that smiling while running gave a 2.8% boost in efficiency. While other work found that smiling during a stressful task drops heart rate recovery... laughter reduces stress hormones, regulates emotions, and increases blood flow to the prefrontal cortex." When you smile, your brain reads the smile and thinks, "I guess we're not dying." As you prep this week for State, in your visualization, and your workouts, take a little time to smile. Smile about your growth; smile about your opportunities; smile about your teammates; smile about what is to come. And when we compete this weekend, smile some more and enjoy all that you and your TEAM have and will accomplish!
Race Reports -
Region: Congrats again on winning the TEAM double! Second time in 3 years for PV, but it doesn't happen that often. We got a new State Q from Travion in the long jump, and Kiera hit her second All-Time Utah Record this year - this time in the Shot Put, the first girl over 50 feet in Utah history! Overall we hit 23 PRs and 9 Season's Bests. The boys 181 points was a nearly 100 point victory over 2nd place and showed a total team effort: We were led by 1st in the 4x800 and 4x400 and 3rds in the 4x100 and 4x200. Individually, Ethan took 2nd in the disc, 3rd in the jav, and was Region Champ in the shot; Trevor was a 2 time Region Champ winning the 3200 and the 1600; Benji earned a Region Champ in the 800 and took 2nd in the 3200; Mason took 3rd in the 3200 and 2nd in the 1600; Travion was 2nd with his lj; Brock was 2nd in the jav; Brennan took 5th in the 1600 and 6th in the 3200; Paul earned 3rd in the lj and 8th in the hj; Elliot was 4th in the 1600 and 7th in the 800; Ben took 3rd in the 1600; Carter B. was 3rd in the 400; Nate took 7th in both the 3200 and 1600; Porter G. was 5th in the jav; Kyle 5th in the 800; Colby 6th in the lj; Bender 6th in the 400; Carter R. 6th in the 800; Buns 8th in the 3200; Josiah 8th in the 400; and Tyler 8th in the jav. The girls won their 4th straight Region Title by stepping up and supporting each other: Our 4x400 put the icing on the title with a first place finish, and we also got solid points from the 3rd place 4x800 and 4th place 4x200; Kiera was Region Champ in all three throws; Tev took 2nd in the 3200 and 800, and was Region Champ in the 1600; Mailey took 3rd in the shot and 2nd in the disc, Sariah placed 7th in the 800, 5th in the 3200, and 4th in the 1600; Naomi was 5th in the 100 and 3rd in the 200 (setting a PV Freshman record in the process); Elin took 7th in the 3200 and 3rd in the 1600; Nely earned 7th in the javelin and 6th in both the shot and discus; Piper took 6th in the jav; and Mia took 7th in the 300h.
Our combined score of 313 dominated the meet as the 2nd best combined score was 197. Truly a testament to how far our TEAM has come this year and how much you are all willing to come together for each other.
