May 15-20 and Region Recap

What a great Region Meet for the Panthers!  Although not everything went perfect, we had many athletes go above the projections and as a team, we really stepped forward.  Day 1 saw three new qualifiers in the 1600.  In the girls' race, Caroline set a quick pace and led herself and Jessica to a 4th and 3rd place finish (qualifying by time and place).  On the guys' side, Alex also set out a quick pace and pushed to a 4th place qualifying time and place.  The boys' medley ran a very solid race taking 2nd and putting up the 3rd fastest 3A time this season.  The rest of the day saw many athletes making finals and setting personal bests.  Day 2 brought a few more qualifiers and many placers in the finals.  Josie went went our theme and went out hard in the girls' 800 and held on to a qualifying time.  Dillan threw the shot to a 2nd place finish.  Jacob State Q'ed in the 100 and had the performance of the day as he won the LJ in his first attempt at the event with a jump just short of 22'.  The boys' 4x400 ran their best race of the season and placed 2nd and made State by time and place.  Jake ran a PR in the 300's and placed 3rd.  Carson ran a strong race and placed 3rd in the 3200.  Even many of those who didn't qualify had great performances.  Kobe joined Colin and Jacob in the LJ finals.  Raymond made finals in the shot.  Dillan, Dylan, and Jakobe all made finals in the jav. Amelia scored well in both jumps.  Celeste placed in the jav.  Many of our distance runners scored in the top 8.  Jada ran an excellent 800 (moving her to #3 freshman in the state).  And the list could go on and on!
We are super proud of all our athletes.  Thanks for all your hard work.  And thanks for pulling together as a team.  Remember what we talked about at the end of the meet... evaluate your season and what you can to do continue to grow; figure out who you can bring to the team next year to help us grow and continue to improve; and continue to push yourself and those around you to be your best.

As we move into State week, here's our plan for the week:

Monday: Distance runners have AM practice at 6:30 this week.  Team meeting at 3:00 in the lecture hall.

Tuesday & Wednesday: practice as usual.

Thursday: leaving to Provo at 12:30 from PVHS (MS'ers will get a ride up to the HS).  An itinerary will be sent out early in the week.

Friday and Saturday: State Track Meet at BYU!

JUST A REMINDER FOR A FEW OF THE DISTANCE RUNNERS... some received an article to read; get that article read and get your parents to read it BEFORE OUR XC BOB FIRMAN MEETING ON TUESDAY AT 5:00p!  And please be to the meeting with a parent.

May 8-13 & JV Region and Herriman Recap

It's championship season!  Congrats everyone on a great season... it's not over for everyone, but we want to thank everyone who came out this year and saw great success through the hard work and dedication that this lifestyle requires.

At our JV Championships, we saw a lot of good racing and PR's.  Kobe finished up his season with a PR in the 100, 200, and LJ. James PR'ed in the 200. Parker and Jaron PR'ed in the 400 and took home top 8 finishes.  Tavin and Landon PR'ed in the 1600. Julian, Colben and Jaron PR'ed in the jav.  The boys also saw Landon PR'ing in the LJ and Dallin PR'ing in both jumps!  On the girls' side, we got PR's from Yrene in the 100, 200, and 400; Seanne and Kathya in the 400; Po and Teuila in the jav; and Teuila also PR'ed in the LJ.

Although a few JV athletes qualified to finish up their seasons at Herriman, most finished up the year with this meet.  We just want to let all of them know that they are the heart of this program!  Again, thanks for coming out this season, and we look forward to you coming out again next year (and bringing a few more friends now that you have seen how fun track is!)  Take a few minutes and think about your season, what you did well, what you can do better with; and then, keep up those things you are doing great at and work on your weaknesses and turn them into strengths for the future.  All those who aren't competing anymore, should be heading into your breaks.  Use this time to recover from the long season.  Heal up a bit if you've been injured.  Go out and do a few other active things: swim, bike, hike, keep lifting, yoga, etc... Those who are headed into XC, take the time you need off, then start building back up with easy 10-25 minute runs and be ready for the official start of XC on June 5th.

At the Herriman Twilight Meet, we were able to continue to add to our list of State Qualifiers.  In the first race of the day, our girls medley ran a season best and easily qualified.  It was a great run by Kaylani, Josie, Jada, and Jacey (who had to jump out of the suburban and get to the line with no warm up after a long day of AP testing!).  Our next qualifiers were the 4x100 boys.  In only their second attempt this season, the team of Colin, Jacob, Michael, and Samson ran a great race to hit their StateQ.  Our final StateQ was a sub 2:00 first for Alex in the 800!
Great job everyone.  Now we turn out attention to the Region 9 Championships at Cedar HS on Wednesday and Thursday.  The goal of the meet will be to pull in as many State Qualifiers as possible.  So get physically and mentally ready for the big push it takes to achieve such an elite status.

Info for Region: I'm not going to post the bus time yet, until I know for sure that the bus time won't be changed!  But we will be leaving toward the end of the school day on Wednesday and Thursday and heading up to Cedar HS.  The meet starts at 4:00p both days.  We would really ask that all our Varsity athletes plan on staying throughout the whole meet.  Stay and cheer on your teammates!  We may invite a few JV athletes to come up with the team for support and spirit.

Schedule for the week:
Monday - distance runners have their workout at 6:00a.  Team meeting after school to cover key info for the week and get us ready to roll into Region.

Tuesday - usual practice schedule.

Wednesday - Region Championships!

Thursday - Region Championships!

Friday - usual practice schedule for those who are going to State.

May 1-6 and Cedar and Orem Recaps

The weather didn't quite cooperate for our big push for PR's, but we still had some great performances and even a few State Qualifiers over the weekend.  Up at Cedar, Celeste fought the wind and snow to hit a SQ in the jav with a big PR of 106' and 4th place.  In Orem, Jacey raced to a 4th place finish in the 1600, Brizbin threw a big 8' PR in the disc to break 120' for the first time, and Jake ran a season's best in the 300h to get a SQ.  There were a lot of other great performances at both meets.
This week, we will be heading up to Canyon View on Tuesday for the JV Region Championships and to Herriman on Friday for the Herriman Twilight Meet.  Here's the outline for the whole week:

Monday: team meeting at 3:00 in the lecture hall - everyone needs to come and have an idea what your are going to do at the JV Champs (for those that will be attending).  If you are not at the meeting, you won't be going to any meets this week.
Distance runners - The following should be at AM practice at 5:45a: Jacey, Josie, Ellie, Caroline, Rylee, Jessica, Addi (if your leg is feeling up to it), Dallen, Mitch, Xander, Carson, Alex, Julien, Logan, and Colton (I think that is it... Varsity runners).  The rest of the Level 2's should be at practice at 6:15a for your normal am run.

Tuesday: JV Region Championships at CV.  Meet starts at 4:00.  Bus time will be posted soon.  Those who are competing at JV Region will not be competing at Var Region next week (with the exception of a few Varsity relay teams).  There will be a few JV athletes who will be headed to Herriman this weekend, but for most of our JV athletes, this meet will mark the end of the season.  We invite those JV athletes who have finished up their season to keep coming out to practice with the team.

Wednesday: normal practice.  Distance runners have their workout at 6:00am.

Thursday: normal practice.

Friday: Herriman Twilight Meet at Herriman HS.  Those qualifying (invited) athletes will be leaving near the end of first period on Friday.  Bus times will be posted and an itinerary sent out with the athletes soon.  The meet is on Friday evening only, but we will be staying overnight and coming home Saturday morning.  Cost for the meet (hotel) is $25 for those who did not pay for hotels through their fundraisers.

Anyone who has not paid for uniforms or hotel fees, MUST PAY for these items soon.  The fine list will be turned in to the office early this week.

End of Season Awards: We will have an informal ice cream social for our team awards night.  JV and Varsity Letters will be given out as well as awards for our athletes and performances of the year.  The date for this will be announced soon.  This will be a very low-key quick event, but we do want to recognize our athletes.

YOUNGSTERS: There is a meet scheduled for Wednesday, May 3rd at Desert Hills HS.  I don't have a lot of info, but I am guessing it is on.

Alumni Report: We have had two former Panther track athletes competing in the collegiate ranks this season.  Kaylee (Boyer) Abel is finishing up her final season of eligibility at SUU.  Kaylee is the school record holder in the 3200 and former record holder in XC.  She has had a great career at SUU and finishes the year with many strong performance in the distance events.  We congratulate her on her career and her double majors for Southern Utah.
Michael Finch was another standout distance athlete at PV.  Michael has had a great season at SUU after working back in shape after his mission.  This past weekend, Michael won the 3000 Steeple at the Steve Scott Invite in California with a PR and a time that places him 6th in the conference.

April 24-29 and Dixie Invite Recap

Another good building week for PV Track.  Dixie Invite saw some very solid performances from our sprints and field events, and the distance runners threw out some exciting performances as well.  Our 200/400 guys ran very well (Samson - 5th place 200; PR's from Jacob, Michael, Colin, Colton, and Macen).  Add a PR for Kaylani in the 100 and the sprint squad set the tone for a good meet.  Jakobe hit a PR in the jav and scored for the team.  Amelia tied her PR in the HJ and made finals in the LJ to score well for the team.  Colin hit a season's best LJ and took 3rd.  And Celeste placed in the jav finals to mark a strong meet for the field events.  In the distance races, Jacey ran a good 1600 taking 4th; Rylee and Ellie went 3 and 4 in the 3200 setting season's and personal bests respectively.  Nearly the whole guys 3200 crew PR'ed with Carson taking 7th, Xander crushing his PR by 14 seconds and qualifying for State and taking 8th, and Julien and Mitch slipping in PR's as well.  The 800 saw Jacey run a great race - state qualifying and placing 3rd; Caroline taking 5th and Josie hitting a season's best.  Jada and Jessica also ran great races and PR'ed.  And in the boys 800, Logan and Colton ran their best races of the year and are just off of state qualifying.  Overall, it was a great meet, and we continue to improve at the time of the year when PR's, Herriman Qualifying, and State Qualifying marks are all out there to get.  Everyone has worked extremely hard this year and deserves them, so "Jump out de plane!"

This week's announcements:
Monday - 5:30am practice for Level 2 and 3 distance runners (be there on time and in your bright camp shirts).  Full team: team meeting at 3:00p in the PVHS lecture hall before practice.

Tuesday - Dixie Field Event Invite.  We have yet to get any info on this meet, so we are hoping that it still is happening.  We have a bus, but won't announce the time 'cause it just gets changed all the time anyway!  So listen to pre-practice announcements for info.

Friday - Cedar Invite: About 2/3's the team will be heading to the Cedar Invite at CHS on Fri and Saturday.  Events will be finalized by mid-week (Wednesday) on runnercard.  Again, bus time for Fri. and Sat. will be announced later.
Tiger Trials: The top 20-25 athletes will be headed to the Tiger Trials.  The meet is Saturday at Orem HS, and we leave PVHS after lunch on Friday.  An agenda for invited athletes will be sent out by mid-week.

Saturday - Cedar Invite: Day 2, bus times will be announced.
Tiger Trials: Starts at 9:00a at Orem HS

YOUNGSTERS - we think there is a meet at Desert Hills on Wednesday the 26th, but again we haven't heard anything yet.  Check back for more info - schedule and start times will be similar to the PV meets: 3:45 start time, $1 / event.

Let's keep the energy going!  Encourage your teammates to be out to practice and on time.  Dig in deep to be the example of commitment and dedication and others will follow.  Remember that everyone can be a leader.

April 17-22 and Hurricane JV, DH Multi and Distance Carnie Recap

We survived a very busy week... and we did so with some great track and field!  First, a huge congrats to Brianna, Kaylani, Jada, Colin, and Parker for competing in and completing their Hep/Decathlons at the DH Multis.  What a huge accomplishment it is to complete all those events in just 24 hours!  At the Distance Carnie, we also had some other great performances.  Mostly notably, Caroline State Q'ed in the 3200.  Xander had a very good 3200 as well and just missed his State Q by less than a second.  We had a ton of great 1600's - PR's from Carli and Jenessa (first time under 6:00!), also Nathan, Corbin (sub 5:00!), Tanner, James, Tyler, and Landon - sorry if I missed anyone there.  We also had some solid distance relays.  The boys and girls boys took first in the 4x800 (with the boys just missing out on the school record), and the girls had a great battle with DH for the 4x1600 title (just coming up short on a very windy day).  The guys also claimed the 4x1600 title.
Earlier in the week, we had a very successful JV meet at Hurricane.  We had many PR's, it would be impossible to mention them all, but some of the standouts were Brizbin with a very solid 112' disc throw, Jada's 1600 PR, and good showings from the rest of our distance crew.

This week, things calm down a little bit, but we have an important invite over at Dixie on Fri and Saturday.  With Sr. Ball also this weekend, please arrange your schedules to make sure you are there for your events.

Monday: No school.  Get your workouts in - check with event coaches to see if you have practice.

Tuesday: Practice as usual (no JV meet this week).

Wednesday: Dixie Invite registration due. Practice as usual.

Thursday: Practice as usual.

Friday: Practice for those not competing at Dixie.  Dixie Invite - HS out at 1:35, MS out at 1:45 with bus coming just after release times.  Athletes MUST ride bus, but can leave after assigned events with parent checkout.

Saturday: Dixie Invite - bus leaving HS at 7:45a.  Athletes MUST ride bus, but can leave after assigned event with parent checkout.  VERY IMPORTANT... athletes CAN NOT leave with friends to the dance, a parent must come and pick you up!  Please plan ahead.

Another important note for all of our athletes: On meet days, you must be at school through out the whole day.  If you are sick and have to go home, then you are too sick to race.  If you have a doctor appointment, it must be pre-approved by Mr. Higgins.  If you are tardy, you run the risk of a teacher not changing the absence (so don't be tardy).  To compete at a meet, you must be at school!

YOUNGSTERS - important note from Coach Martha: You will not have practice this week - Monday there is no school, and Thursday, you are encouraged to go to the meet at Hurricane.  The cost per event at the meet is $1.  Get your rides arranged and go have a great meet!  If you ordered a uniform and haven't got it, talk to Coach.  If you haven't paid for one and would like one, talk to Coach.

April 10-15 and DesHill Invite Recap

Well, no one got blown away by the wind this past weekend, so that was good.  It was a windy meet over at DH, but we still did well.  Our top finishers were Jacey in the 1600 taking 4th, Dillan taking 2nd in the shot, Alex bouncing back from his spiking last week and taking 4th in the 800, and Julien taking 4th in the 1600 and hitting his State Q!  Jacobe had a good meet and made finals in both the LJ and the jav.  Xander grabbed a point in the 1600 with an 8th place finish.  Samson placed a solid 5th in the 200.  We also saw seasons best from Caroline in the 1600 and Josie in the 800.  Hopefully we can catch some decent weather this week and really show how much we have improved so far this year.

We've got a very busy short week:

Monday - Level 2 and 3 distance runners will meet at 5:30a for practice.  As usual, make sure you have your camp yellow or white shirts on.
We will also finalize sign-ups for the JV meet and the DH Multi's and Distance Carnie at our team meeting on Monday afternoon, so make sure you are there.

Tuesday - JV race at Hurricane.  HS will be out at 2:15 to go catch the bus; MS out at 2:20.  We need to be to the MS before school is out, so don't take too long getting ready, please.  The meet starts at 4:00.  And as usual, you can catch a ride home with your parent/guardian if he/she is there to pick you up once your events are finished.

Wednesday - We host are last K-8th meet.  Level 2 and 3 distance runners will meet for AM practice at 6:00a to get our workout in, so that we can be there to help at the meet.  We MUST have everyone stick around and help out at the meet!  PLEASE!

Thursday - This is the first day of the DH Multi's and Distance Carnie.  Right now we have schedule for the HS to be out at 1:35 and then the MS out a 1:45.  However, the meet changed to a 4:00p start, so we will see if we can move our bus back and not have to miss class.  Updates will come via text.  Those who aren't competing Thursday will have practice at the usual time.

Friday - NO SCHOOL / Day 2 of the DH Multi's and Distance Carnie.  Bus will leave from PVHS at 7:45a (no MS pickup).  Meet starts at 9:00a.

Next week Monday, we also don't have school.  Check with your event coaches to see how your practice will be scheduled.

Just wanted to let everyone know how proud we coaches are of all of you athletes.  You really are doing great things and representing your school well.  Keep up the hard work for the next 1 1/2 months!  Keep up in the classroom and out on the track.  Get the rest you need.  Eat healthy.  Drink plenty of water (it is getting warm).  Be good influences on each other and those you come in contact with.  Doing these things will guarantee continued improvement.  We promise, good things come to those who work for it... so keep working!

And remember, follow us on Insta and Twitter - @pvtrack
and get our test via the Remind app; go back a few posts to the beginning of the season and get the number so you're up to date on all things PV Track and Field!

April 3-8 & DH JV Meet & Hurr Invite Recap

We have reached the mid-point of our season, and we continue to see great things from those who are putting in the hard work and dedication necessary to be successful.
This past week was a busy one; we had multiple meets and a Youngsters meet.  A big thanks to everyone who stayed around and helped with the youth meet - it went very well and everyone helped a lot.

JV at DH: Despite the hassles (no bus; then a bus, but meet cancelled; then meet back on, but at DH), we ended up having a great meet.  We had great races from many of our athletes and recorded many season and personal records.  Our results are posted at athletic.net.  Some of our best performances were the boys 1-5 sweep in the 1600 with Mikey taking the win, followed by Evan, Colton, Nathan, and Corbin.  Corbin and Grant had a great battle in the 800.  Colin brought home a win in the 300h followed by Evan.  Brianna also won the 300h.  And Alli won the 3200.

Hurricane Invite: A windy and cold weekend at Hurricane saw three more State Q's for our team.  Dillan Robertson won the shot with the 5th furthest mark in Utah this season at 51-03.  Samson ran a very good 200 taking 3rd with a 23.18.  And Jacey placed 3rd in her first 3200 of the season running a 11:39.  Other strong performances came from Carli who ran a big PR in the 3200 to place 8th.  Xander who narrowly missed a State Q in his first 3200 ever and was just as close to qualifying in the 1600 as well.  Dillan's 4th place finish in the jav.  Caroline, Rylee and Jessica placing 2,3 and 5 in the 1600.

This coming week, we have two more meets.
Panther Relays: Tues at PVHS we host the Panther Relays.  This meet is all relay races and starts at 4:00.  Athletes need to be there at the usual practice time to help set up and get our relays set up.

Team BBQ: After the Relays, we will have a team BBQ and cook up some World Famous Panther Dogs.  Stay around after the meet and eat if you can.

Desert Hills Invite: Fri and Saturday is the DH Invite.  This invite is another State Qualifying meet, but we may have a few more spaces for entries than last week.  Our bus times will be the same as they were for last week.  On Friday, HS'ers are out after 4th at 1:35 and then we will go pick up the MS'ers who are out at 1:45.  On Saturday, the bus will leave the HS at 7:45a.  Remember, you MUST ride the bus over, but can come home with your guardian after checking out with the coaches.

March 27-April 1 & PV Invite Recap

Ahh... Big sigh of relief!  The PV Invite is over and went so well.  Thank you, thank you for everyone who helped, and you all did such a great job.  We had so many compliments about how great the meet went, and it really was because of all the help from all of you.

For our team, we had some great performances.  Again Jacey started us very well in the first race of the meet.  Her 5:10 in the 1600 placed her 3rd, set a new PR for her, and continues her pursuit of the school record.  In the guys 1600, we got two big State Q's from Dallen and Carson.  There were many other PR's and great races from our distance crew.  In the 3200, we got State Q's from Carson (again & with a big PR - 9:40 - and 6th place finish), Dallen, Mitch and Julien; on the girls' side, we added Jessica, Josie and Ellie to our State Q list.  And the 4x800's took 3rd and 2nd, respectively.  Other strong distance races were recorded for Alex in the 800; and Xander, Mitch and Julien in the 1600. In the sprints, Kaylani Pr'ed in the 100; Jada in PR'ed in the 400; Samson and Colin led a solid boys' 400 crew; Jake took 5th in the 300, just missing out on his Q.  Our top field event marks were recorded by Amelia in the LJ, and Jakobe in the Jav and LJ.  It was another good early season meet.  We really look forward to the progress we will see throughout the year.

We, of course, have another busy week coming up:
Distance runners - Level 2 and 3's will have am practice at 5:30a Monday morning.  Anyone not wearing your camp shirt (preferred) or white will be wearing a vest for safety.

JV @ Cedar - on Tuesday, the JV will be heading up to Cedar HS for a meet.  This will be for most anyone that isn't an upper Varsity.  HS will be out at 2:00 for the bus at 2:15; and the MS out at 2:15 and the bus picking you up when we get there.  The meet starts at 4:00p and we will get back as soon as the meet is done.

K-8th Meet - PV track will be hosting a developmental camp (MEET) for grades K-8th at PVHS on Wednesday.  The meet will start at 3:45 for the 1600 and signups for the other events.  (We have to be done before 6:00, so that is the reason for the early start time.)  The cost is $1 per event (our PV kids can pay $3 to cover all events for both this meet and our next one in a couple weeks).  Youngsters will continue to practice on Monday and Thursday at 4:00p.

Hurricane Invite - Fri and Saturday is the Hurr. Invite at HHS.  This is a Varsity meet, but we will continue to try and get as many athletes into events as possible - we are limited to 6 / event at this meet.  The meet starts at 3:00p on Fri and 9:00a on Sat.  Athletes MUST ride the bus over to the meet, but may ride home with their parent after checking out with the coaches.  Bus info: Friday - HS out at 1:35 and bus leaving at 1:45, MS out at 1:45 and bus picking you up when we get there. Saturday - the bus will be leaving the HS at 7:45a.

Please remember our team meeting at 3:00 on Monday in the lecture hall at the high school.  You must be in attendance to sign up for the Cedar Meet.  We will also discuss the rest of the week and hear some sort of great inspirational/team building message (I'm sure!).

Again, thanks so much for all the great work and help over the weekend.  We couldn't be more proud of our great athletes!  There are great days ahead for PV Track and Field.

March 20-25 (PV Invite) and SC Invite Recap

SUPER BIG WEEK COMING UP!
This week is our PV Invite!  This is one of the largest high school hosted meets in the state.  We have always put on a great meet, and so a lot of schools attend.  So WE NEED EVERYONE'S HELP THIS WEEKEND!  We will be using everyone to help with field and track events, timing, imputing results, working concessions, and all sorts of other things.  Some of you will be excused all day Friday to help with setup.  On Friday, everyone else will be out at 11:00a to get lunch and then back to the meet at 11:30 to help setup.  MS'ers, you will need to arrange a ride to get to the HS.  On Saturday, everyone will need to be to the track at 8:00a to help setup.
Drinks: Remember girls and guys have been asked to bring drinks to help with the concessions.  Check out the post from last week to see what you've been assigned.

Other Info -
Distance Runners: Workouts are posted - Level 2's and 3's will have a long run early Monday morning.  Please be on time, and PLEASE wear your camp shirt for safety!

Snow Canyon Invite Recap: We had a great first meet of the season a couple weeks ago.  Usually we have one All-Comers before our first invite, so we didn't know what to expect right off the bat.  Nonetheless, we had some great performances.  The first meet of the Utah Track and Field season saw Jacey Finch get a big win in the 1600, hitting a PR and State Q with a 5:13.  Jessica Hill took 3rd and Addi Baker 8th.  Xander Reese (5th) and Logan Hall (7th) scored points in the boys 1600.  Samson Doyle had a very solid 400 prelims (53.1 in his first 400 ever).  The girls took 1-4 in the 3200 with Rylee Holt taking the win and hitting a State Q followed by Caroline Clements, Josie Bushar, and Ellie Bushar.  The boys 3200 saw Panthers taking 3-5 and 8-10.  Leading the pack was Carson Horspool who hit his State Q, then Mitch Price (who missed his SQ by .4), and Dallen Gillespie.  Other strong performances came from Samson and Jacob Mpungi who made finals in the 100, Jake McArthur with finals in the 110's and 300's, Jada Chepkwurui in the 400, Jacey 2nd in the 800, Logan and Colton Staheli in the 800 (2nd and 3rd), Amelia Goebel with a 5th place finish in the HJ, Celeste Fiame taking 5th in the Jav, Dylan Miraglia finishing 3rd in the Jav, and Colin Tudor 6th in the LJ.  Both boys and girls teams finished a solid 5th in the 10 team scoring meet.  It was a good start to the season.  Not only did we have the great marks mentioned above, but we had many of our younger athletes do very well in their first meet.

Good things are happening with PV Track and Field!  Let's keep it rolling with hard work and dedication.  Remember, everything you put in now - all the effort, time, commitment - will pay off for you.  I promise it will!  Work hard now and earn great rewards, soon.

YOUNGSTERS: Our K-8th grade program is continuing to grow.  This week we will have practice on our usual Monday and Thursday schedule at 4:00-4:45.  Our first meet is coming up next week on Wednesday the 29th at 3:45 at PVHS.  Registration will be $1/event, unless you have paid the $3 fee to cover all events at our two PV meets.  We also need to collect the $10 registration and participation form.  Checks should be made out to PVXC Club and given to Coach Martha or Coach Holt (please don't pay to HS Finance Office because this program is run separately from the HS - Thanks).

Spring Break and PV INVITE STUFF

This weekend we are at Snow Canyon, which means PV Invite is right around the corner (the week we get back from Spring Break)!  So we have a lot to do to get ready...

Before we go there though let's jump back to Spring Break - your event specific coach will determine if and when you have practice over the break.  If you will be out of town, PLEASE get your workouts in!  If you are in town, PLEASE come to practice and get your workouts in!  Main idea here... PLEASE GET YOUR WORKOUTS IN!  This is a pretty important time of year for your development, and taking a week off will definitely hurt your progress.

PV INVITE STUFF:
The invite is coming together pretty smoothly.  Here are a few things that can/need to be done to help:
Drinks - girls need to bring waters / 16-18 oz bottles please
boys need to bring gatorades / 20 oz bottles please (that's the grocery store size, NOT the
                        Costco size)
*bring this anytime during the invite week*

We will also be using athletes to help at events (disc, shot, jav, hj), the timing tent/finish line, hurdle crew, and concession.  Because of this, WE REALLY NEED EVERY ATHLETE AT THE MEET.  I know that there are some events that weekend and I hate that there is a conflict, but we really do need everyone at the meet to help.  So please do the best you can to arrange your schedule to be there on Friday and Saturday.

There will probably be more stuff added to this as it comes to my head.  So check back now and then.

March 6-11 (SC Invite)

***IMPORTANT UPDATE TO SC INVITE***

We have had busing issues and will have to leave much earlier than planned.  Please read on...
For Friday, the bus will now need to leave the HS around 12:45.  Because of this, the HS'ers will be excused for 4th and 5th - please be available right at the end of lunch.  The MS'ers will be excused at 12:50 - please get to the front of the school by the PVMS sign and be waiting for us.
If this is a major problem (e.g. you must be at school for a test, etc.,) then you may have a parent bring you to the meet and check you in with one of the coaches - you are still NOT allowed to drive to the meet yourself; you will not compete if you do that.
ANOTHER UPDATE - we have a bus to take us to the meet on Fri, but not home. So, all athletes will need to arrange a ride after the meet. It MUST be with an adult (it CANNOT be with a student).  Please brig a signed permission slip from a guardian if you are going with an adult who is not your guardian. Saturday is all good (leaving from hs at 7:45a). Those not racing, you are still fine to do your own thing.
================================================

We are in the full swing of things now.  It's been great having some new athletes come out and join us in the past few weeks.  Important info for the upcoming week:

Monday practice - even with the short day, we will meet at 3:00p in the lecture hall and practice after.  We will be assigning athletes to events for the SC Invite at this meeting... BE THERE! (distance runners: Levels 2 and 3 will have a long run on Monday morning at 5:30a; meet at the school and wear your camp shirts)

Register My Athlete - this must be complete by Monday if you want to be considered to compete at Snow Canyon this weekend.

Fees - you will also need to have your $85 Participation Fee paid.  We have run into a few unexpected snags with paying for the Participation Fee with sponsors $, but they seem to have been worked out!  Thanks to our great administration and those at the district who listened and developed a plan.  Just make sure you put all your sponsor money in the boys or girls fundraiser; then bring me the receipt and let me know what you need covered!

Snow Canyon Invite - will be held Fri and Sat.  Not everyone will be competing, but we will fill all the spots we can (up to 6 / event).  The bus will be leaving the HS at 1:35 on Fri and then picking up the 9th graders (out at 1:40).  On Saturday, everyone will meet the bus at PVHS at 7:45.  You MUST ride the bus to be eligible to compete.  Athletes may leave after their assigned events with a parent, upon getting checked out with a coach.  Schedule of Events

Youth Track Program - we are continuing to build our youth program.  If you know of anyone from K-8th grade that would like to come join your developmental camp, invite them to join us on Mondays and Thursdays at 4:00p!

Track Season is Starting!

9th-12th Grade -
The season begins on Tuesday the 21st!  We will begin with a short meeting in the lecture hall at PVHS at 3:00, followed up by practice out on the track.  We are very excited about all the athletes that are coming (or planning on coming) out, the improvements at our facilities (new shot, jav, and disc areas), and our coaching staff: Coach Aiono (throws), Coach Morgan (sprints/jumps), Coach Zabriskie (sprints/jumps/hurdles), Coach Roberts (distance), Coach Decker (distance), and Coach Holt.
Those athletes who are still finishing up a winter season, good luck at do well at State; we'll see you when your season is done.

Decathlon -
We are planning on having some multi-event days to help everyone learn about the different track and field events and help guide you to which events you would like to compete in.  On Mon-Wed Feb 27-March 1, we will be teaching and competing in 2-3 events/day.  This is a fun event and gets our season off to a great start.  Please plan on being at practice those days.

Please look at the Season Info Paper and bring back the signed back page to Coach Holt.

Elementary-Middle School -
PVHS will be hosting a developmental camp for kids who would like to learn more about the sport and participate in our youth meets (the schedule for these meets is still being finalized).
Our program will be supervised by Coach Martha Baker as well as the high school coaches and athletes.  The goal of our program is to provide interested youth an opportunity to learn the various aspects of track and field as well as receive supervised coaching and opportunities to train and compete.
We will practice on Mondays and Thursdays at 4:00p at PVHS.  These practices will start on Monday, February 27th.
A signed release form will be required to participate (will be posted soon), as well as a fee to help cover the coaching and racing cost; there will also be an option to by our club uniform for $20 (these totals will be updated/posted soon).

Spirit Pack!

If you want some gear from the Spirit Pack you MUST PURCHASE IT BY JANUARY 25th!
Go to pvtrack17.itemorder.com to view the items.
None of this gear is required (the uniform is separate - although there are tops and shorts that can be purchased here, they are workout gear/supplemental gear and NOT the official uniform that will be purchased later).
Unfortunately, this year our gear can NOT be purchased with sponsor money.  So this is just a suggestion... Use your sponsor money for your participation fee, hotel $, and official uniform (which is purchased through the school - more info coming later).  Then use the money you would have used for those things to purchase a few spirit pack items if you would like.
Anyway... get that stuff order ASAP if you want something.
