Region and State Recap

It's been a great season...
Thanks so much to everyone involved: athletes, parents, coaches, and everyone else who helped us have such a successful season.  As coaches, we've appreciated all the support and the dedication from the athletes.  This is definitely a year we will be able to build upon as we continue to work to create the high-level program we strive to have here at Pine View.

Region Recap: Our team goal going into Region was to get as many athletes qualified for State as possible, and we were able to add quite a few and bring home some medals in the process.  Scorers included Jessica 6th in the 3200 and Scottie 3rd (with a PR and a SQ) in the boys' race.  James SQed in the 300h prelims.  Alli (2nd) and Rylee (7th) in an 800 race that also saw Pyper and Kyanne PR.  Evan PRed and SQed in the 800 while placing 3rd and Julien placed 7th.  Dom SQed in his 200 prelim.  Alli won the 1600 and Jess hit a SQ time.  Cooper SQed in his 1600 with a big PR and Luke also PRed to take 7th.  James placed 7th in the 100h.  Arden earned a SQ in the 100 finals with a 3rd place finish.  She was closely followed by Katelyn who finished 6th.  Sherm took 2nd in the 100.  The girls 4x100 SQed with a 4th place finish.  Alli placed 5th in the 400.  Katelyn earned a SQ with a 4th place finish in the 200.  This time closely followed by Arden's 5th place.  Sherm won the 200.  Gina PRed in the Disc to take 8th.  Dallin finished 6th in the HJ and hit the SQ mark.  Nick finished 5th in the Disc.  Po and Brynlee both placed (7th and 8th) in the Jav.  Gina placed 4th in the Shot to earn her SQ.  Dallin and Jaron scored in the Long Jump (2nd and 6th).  Although the point totals may not have been where we wanted (a few injuries and placement of athletes in various events kept us down a little), the team effort was very good and the boys finished 7th in Region (but just 12 points out of 3rd) and the girls finished 5th (just a 13 points off 3rd).

State Recap: State was a rainy and cool affair this year.  We took one of our largest groups in recent memory and had some solid performances.  Friday started with a Season's Best time for the girls in the 4x100 (placing 14th).  The boys also PRed, but just missed finals with a 10th place finish.  In the girls' 3200 Jessica placed 6th with a SB and Rylee placed 11th.  The boys' 3200 saw Cooper place 9th, Luke 16th, Julien 17th, and Scottie 19th.  Arden ran a PR in the 100 to place 16th in the prelims.  In the boys' 100, Sherm placed 17th and Dom ran the fastest wind legal time (a PR of 10.96) to qualify 2nd.  James moved on to finals with a 9th place time in the 300h.  In the girls' 800, Alli had the performance of the entire State meet.  She attacked at the gun to push to a NEW 4A STATE RECORD time of 2:08.76 to become State Champion.  Her time was the 3rd fastest ever run in the state of Utah.  In the boys' 800 Evan placed 15th.  Katelyn ran her 2nd best 200 of the season to place 11th in the prelims.  In the boys' 200 prelims Dom qualified 2nd and Sherm 7th.  The girls' medley of Arden, Katelyn, Alli, and Rylee ran a Season's Best and placed 3rd to earn All-State Honors.  The boys' medley placed 9th.  On Saturday, Alli started the day with a strong 1600 and placed 2nd, Jessica finished 13th.  For the boys, Cooper placed 17th and Julien placed 20th.  In the boys' 100 final, Dom placed 3rd.  James placed 9th in the 300h finals.  Sherm ran a PR to place 4th in the 200 finals.  The girls' 4x400 ran a big Season's Best to come from the slow heat to place 8th.  In the field events, Dallin placed 9th in the High Jump and 14th in the Long Jump, Gina had her best meet of the year and placed 6th in the Shot, Nick made finals in the Disc and ended up placing 9th, and Brynlee placed 24th in the Jav.  The boys ended the season placing 18th with 11 points and the girls tied for 6th with 31 points.

Thought of the Week: A little thought on the mental side of the sport (and life) as we approach the final weeks of the season... "You know those worries that keep popping into your head? You don't have to do anything to them.  It's like stopping your life to solve farts.  You can't solve them! Trying to solve them IS the problem."
-Mark Freeman
I don't know about the fart stuff, but trying to solve all the doubts that enter into your mind is a big problem.  Usually our biggest enemy is our own self.  As we get to our biggest meets of the year and you look at what you want to accomplish (maybe a PR, a State Qualifier, a Region title, a State placer, or even a State title), the best thing you can do with all those doubts and thoughts that come into you mind is to just let them go.  At this point in time, you've done all the work.  Just get out of your own way and quit worrying.  Go be your best self.  Let 'er rip!
