State Week and Region Recap

Well... we've finally made it to the end.  It has been an amazing season and we look forward to great things from our State Qualifiers this week up at BYU.  We'll have one more post next week to finalize our season, but for now let's recap Region.
Region 9 Championships - A huge thanks to all those athletes and parents who came out to help run the meet.  It was a little hectic trying to host over at another school (and maybe a bit more disorganized than we would have normally been), but things went smoothly and it was a good Region meet.  The girls team had their best meet of the season and really pulled together to place a strong third.  The boys team started very strong, but then missed a few opportunities with injuries and missing finals and slipped down to fifth in a very tightly packed finish from 2nd to 5th.  Nonetheless, it was a solid Region finish to a very good season.  Here's a list of all our top 8 finishers from Region: In the girls 3200 - Jessica 3rd, Rylee 6th, Ellie 7th; Boys 3200 - Nathan 5th, Scottie 6th, Mikey 8th; Girls 800 - Alli Region Champion!, Jacey 3rd and a State Qualifier, Caroline 8th; Boys 800 - Logan 3rd and a State Qualifier; Evan 5th; Girls Medley 6th; Boys Medley 7th; Girls 1600 - Jessica 6th, Jada 7th; Boys 1600 - Alex 2nd and a State Qualifier; Boys 110h - Jake 4th, James 7th; Boys 100 - Samson 7th; Boys 4x100 5th; Girls 400 - Alli 4th; Boys 400 - Samson 3rd, Macen 7th; Boys 300h - Jake 2nd, James 7th; Boys 200 - Samson 6th; Girls 4x400 4th and a State Qualifier; Boys 4x400 6th; Girls Long Jump -Teulia 5th; Girls Shot - Gina 6th; Girls Jav - Celeste 1st, Brynlee 6th, Demri 8th; Boys High Jump - Jakobe 8th; Boys Long Jump - Colin 3rd and a State Qualifier; Boys Shot - Raymond 7th; Boys Jav - Dylan 5th; and Girls High Jump - Claire 5th.

This Week's Schedule:
Monday - regular practice schedule.  Those participating at State, alternates, and just anyone who wants to still work out with the team, just meet out at the track at 3:00 (no team meeting).  Also, all 8th-11th graders: physicals for next year at the HS starting at 5:30.  Pay at the HS Finance Office and bring pre-physical and consent for filled out and signed by parent!
Tuesday - regular practice schedule.
Wednesday - Bus will leave the HS after lunch for State - an itinerary will be sent home to those traveling with the team.
Thursday and Friday - Utah 4A State Championships at BYU.  Schedule

XC Runners - Please get physical and registermyathlete done for next season now!  Also please get a captain recommendation form from Coach Roberts and have it filled out and returned by Wednesday morning!

Thought of the Week: "The reward for work well done is the opportunity to do more." - Jonas Salk.  This quote makes us think of our track season in many ways: 1) those who have the opportunity to compete at State this week - you have done amazing things this year; let's go do a bit more! 2) everyone who has completed this season with our team - hopefully you have done everything within your power to have improved yourself as much as possible, and because of this, you have opened more doors for yourself and others around you to continue to do great things in all aspects of your life.
And as we get toward the end, just a cheesy sentimental thought from some old people to you young people... Thanks for all you have done.  You truly are an inspiration to us and all those around you.  I for one, leave each season very confident that this world is going to be a good place because I get to see our future leaders developing strengths and passions that are going push us all in the right direction.  So remember... stand up for that which is right; be kind to everyone around you; and true joy comes not from material things, rather from the moments that you get to share with those whom you love.  Our Seniors... please keep in contact with us and go do great things!
Oh... and Happy Mother's Day out there to all you awesome Moms who love and support your kids so much.

Week of May 7 - 12 and JV Region & Herriman Recaps

It is truly unbelievable that we are at this point in the season.  It has been a great journey and has gone so quickly.  We hope that you have found something amazing and a lot of joy as well.  This week we have Region and we wish the best of luck to all our athletes who are participating.  Before we get into all that, here's a recap of the last week:
JV Region at Canyon View:  It wasn't a great day weather-wise, but we still had many of our athletes go out and do their best this past week at JV Region.  Through the sleet and rain, Allison Brown set a PR in the 1600.  Harrison and Cody both PR'ed in the LJ.  Tanner PR'ed in the 3200.  Carter PR'ed in the 1600.  Jaron PR'ed in the 300h while placing 2nd and took 4th in the 110h. Madeline PR'ed in the 1600.  And Sarah S. PR'ed and won the 3200.  Carson, Tavin, and Jose all scored points in the 1600.  Kathy medaled in the 400.  Tavin, Boston, and Grant all placed top 8 in the 800.  Sarah L. finished 6th in the 300h.  And James and Tanner placed in the top 8 in the 3200.

Herriman Twilight Invite: We also had many great marks at Herriman on Friday evening.  Jake improved on his State Q in the 110h.  Jacey earned her State Qualifier while placing 5th in the 1600 and Jessica placed 7th.  Alli improved on her 400 State Q and placed 2nd in the 400.  Samson also placed 2nd in the 400 (where was also saw great races from Macen and Colin).  Jake also improved his SQ in the 300h while placing 4th and is now one of only 8 guys in Utah to break 40 in the event.  Jada ran a very strong 800 and took 4th and earned her State Qualifier.  Caroline placed 8th in the event.  Alex (1st), Logan (6th), and Evan (8th) all hit a SB or PR in the 800 and Alex's raced earned him a State Qualifier.  Samson came out of the 2nd heat to PR, improve his SQ, and place 6th in the 200.  And finally, Gracie had a nice PR in the 3200 to earn 4th and she was followed in by Ellie who placed 5th.

Athletes of the Week: Get your nominations in (via text or email).

Schedule for the Week:
Monday - regular practice schedule with a team meeting in the PVHS lecture hall.  We need everyone at the team meeting (even if you are done racing for the season - we will discuss help at Region as well as finalize events for Region... we will have open spots in some events that JV athletes can fill in!). There is also the party Monday evening to discuss.  (Distance runners check your schedule, it is a little different)
Tuesday - regular practice schedule.
Wednesday & Thursday - Region at Dixie.  Because of our track condition (especially our LJ runway) Region has been moved to Dixie.  We will still have a lot to do and we want everyone there to support our team, so please plan on coming.  MS'ers will need to catch the first bus over to the HS after school and quickly get out front where the HS'ers will be waiting to get on the bus over to Dixie.  We really, really want everyone to be there and staying throughout the meet to help support and cheer on our teammates!  Schedule for Region can be found at the top of this link - Parents and athletes please note... this schedule will have more spacing than a usual meet, that is to help our athletes have time to recover in between events as best as possible.
Friday - regular practice schedule (and dungeon clean up - we need everyone there to help with this, please)
Saturday - distance crew will have a team workout for those advancing to State

NOTE TO ALL ATHLETES AND PARENTS: Thanks so much for an amazing year.  This is going to be a watershed year for our program.  In years to come, we will look back at this season and remember all the great things that took place as a time our program really moved in an important direction.  There have been so many wonderful memories made.  We appreciate our Seniors so much for all they have done and will miss them so much!  Thanks again.

Thought of the Week: "Focus on the journey, not the destination.  Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it." - Greg Anderson
As we come to the end of the season, we hope that you will look back fondly on much of what has happened - even realizing that the difficult times were part of a greater journey.  And as you move on to the next part of your journey, whatever it may be, strive to find pleasure and joy in all that you do.

XC Reminder  - For those interested in XC next fall, please remember to get your registermyathlete complete and your physicals scheduled.  First day of summer practice is June 4th, 7:00a and Washington Elementary.
