State Week and Region Recap

Well... we've finally made it to the end.  It has been an amazing season and we look forward to great things from our State Qualifiers this week up at BYU.  We'll have one more post next week to finalize our season, but for now let's recap Region.
Region 9 Championships - A huge thanks to all those athletes and parents who came out to help run the meet.  It was a little hectic trying to host over at another school (and maybe a bit more disorganized than we would have normally been), but things went smoothly and it was a good Region meet.  The girls team had their best meet of the season and really pulled together to place a strong third.  The boys team started very strong, but then missed a few opportunities with injuries and missing finals and slipped down to fifth in a very tightly packed finish from 2nd to 5th.  Nonetheless, it was a solid Region finish to a very good season.  Here's a list of all our top 8 finishers from Region: In the girls 3200 - Jessica 3rd, Rylee 6th, Ellie 7th; Boys 3200 - Nathan 5th, Scottie 6th, Mikey 8th; Girls 800 - Alli Region Champion!, Jacey 3rd and a State Qualifier, Caroline 8th; Boys 800 - Logan 3rd and a State Qualifier; Evan 5th; Girls Medley 6th; Boys Medley 7th; Girls 1600 - Jessica 6th, Jada 7th; Boys 1600 - Alex 2nd and a State Qualifier; Boys 110h - Jake 4th, James 7th; Boys 100 - Samson 7th; Boys 4x100 5th; Girls 400 - Alli 4th; Boys 400 - Samson 3rd, Macen 7th; Boys 300h - Jake 2nd, James 7th; Boys 200 - Samson 6th; Girls 4x400 4th and a State Qualifier; Boys 4x400 6th; Girls Long Jump -Teulia 5th; Girls Shot - Gina 6th; Girls Jav - Celeste 1st, Brynlee 6th, Demri 8th; Boys High Jump - Jakobe 8th; Boys Long Jump - Colin 3rd and a State Qualifier; Boys Shot - Raymond 7th; Boys Jav - Dylan 5th; and Girls High Jump - Claire 5th.

This Week's Schedule:

Tuesday - regular practice schedule.
Wednesday - Bus will leave the HS after lunch for State - an itinerary will be sent home to those traveling with the team.
Thursday and Friday - Utah 4A State Championships at BYU.  Schedule

XC Runners - Please get physical and registermyathlete done for next season now!  Also please get a captain recommendation form from Coach Roberts and have it filled out and returned by Wednesday morning!

Thought of the Week: "The reward for work well done is the opportunity to do more." - Jonas Salk.  This quote makes us think of our track season in many ways: 1) those who have the opportunity to compete at State this week - you have done amazing things this year; let's go do a bit more! 2) everyone who has completed this season with our team - hopefully you have done everything within your power to have improved yourself as much as possible, and because of this, you have opened more doors for yourself and others around you to continue to do great things in all aspects of your life.
And as we get toward the end, just a cheesy sentimental thought from some old people to you young people... Thanks for all you have done.  You truly are an inspiration to us and all those around you.  I for one, leave each season very confident that this world is going to be a good place because I get to see our future leaders developing strengths and passions that are going push us all in the right direction.  So remember... stand up for that which is right; be kind to everyone around you; and true joy comes not from material things, rather from the moments that you get to share with those whom you love.  Our Seniors... please keep in contact with us and go do great things!
Oh... and Happy Mother's Day out there to all you awesome Moms who love and support your kids so much.
