Paperwork / Physical / Fee – you need to have your paperwork and physical done before you can come out official practice. To do this, go to registermyathlete.com and get registered for either boys or girls track. If you have a physical on file at school (for this year), you are good. If not, print out the paperwork (or get it in the office) and get your physical taken care of and turned in to Kara in the office. You’ll also need to pay your $100 participation fee before you can come out to official practice which will begin Feb. 21st (or when your season is done for winter sports).

Grades – Your 2nd quarter grades determine your eligibility for the 1st

few weeks of the season. Then 3rd quarter for the majority of the season… so make sure they are good!

Winter Practice – The goal of winter practice is to get you in shape for the season. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you be there. Those in a winter sport, we’ll see you when your season is over… good luck in bball, wrestling, whatever.

Schedule - Winter Practice starts Dec 6th at 3:00p at PVHS

SPRINT, JUMPS & THROWS - we will plan on meeting Tues & Fri for December (after the break we will add days)

DISTANCE RUNNERSWhen your 2 weeks are up, we will start back again (Dec. 19th for many of you). In Jan: everyday (if you haven’t starting running yet, do!)

You will be running 30-50 mins/day for the first few weeks starting Dec 19th. Check the track blog for each day (feel free to move the runs to fit your schedule). Make sure you are running, since you will have a 6 min test when we get back from break.

Indoor Track – there are a few indoor meets up north in Jan/Feb.

If you would like to go to any, let Holt know and he’ll get you registered. You’ll just need to get yourself there and have a place to stay. Check out the track blog for a schedule.

OFFICIAL TRACK PRACTICE – Officially, we will start up on Tues, Feb

21st.  We will practice each afternoon from 3:00-5:00 (some people may have morning practice).

Spring Track Schedule – will be posted on the track blog.

Gear – You will need to pre-order your gear.  Everyone must have a

singlet will be around $40 - it is the maroon tops we have used the last couple years; you also need one of the team shorts (prices will vary on design $20-$40) - These items will be purchased through the school.  An order will be going out in February.

-We will also have a Spirit Pack with OPTIONAL items team gear.  The order forms will be put together the first week of Jan and due later that week.

Fundraiser – Where the money goes to and how to handle it all will be explained at a later date.

(You can go to our website, pvtrack.blogspot, to see examples of the advertising.)

Parent Meeting – As we approach the season, we will have our parent

meeting.  Please be signed up to get our texts to receive info.

Nonethless, now is the time to go do great things and achieve all that we have worked so hard as a team and individually. Two important announcements for the upcoming days:

  • Physicals for next year will be held Tuesday, May 10th at PV. Cost $20. Please plan on getting your physical for next year at this time (for all sports)

  • Distance Crew: PM - Mon & Tues - 3:00p (everyone), Weds-Thurs - at Region (JV get run in on own), Fri - at 12:45p (everyone) / AM - Mon - 6:00a, Tues & Thurs am - 6:15a weights and short run (Black & Silver expected; Maroon optional), Weds am - 6:15a run (No JV), Saturday - 8:00a Sullivan - this week's workouts

Fri-Sat 5/20-21 - State Championships @ BYU we will be leaving on Thursday. Overnight info will be sent out to those attending.

Race Report:
JV Region - We just want to say great job to all our JV athletes who finished up the season. It's a tough thing to keep coming out to practice and pushing yourself when you might not get much time at the invites and championship meets. But your efforts don't go unnoticed - you are a huge part of this team. Your effort, attitude, and hard work are the heart and soul of our program. And for those that are underclassmen, you are laying the foundation of future Varsity seasons with your perserverance. We're excited for you to come back next year, and we urge you to come get involved even in the winter if you're not in a winter sport. Rememeber, that many of our best track and field athletes spent time developing at the JV level before reaching the level they are at today.
At JV Region, we had many strong performances. Kyanne took 2nd in the 1600 and Jordyn set a PR to take 7th. Talmage took 5th in the boys 1600 and Evan went sub 5 for the first time. The girls 4x100 took 6th and the boys took 4th and 8th. Eva took 3rd in the 100h with a very solid time. Tyson took 3rd in the 110h and 2nd in the 300h, while Talmage took 8th. Elle won the 800 with Jordyn taking 3rd. In the 3200, Grant took 4th. Macy took 7th with her first 200 of the season. And Costa took 8th in his 200. The boys 4x400 took 4th. Brynlee S. was 4th in the HJ and Parker took 1st for the boys. Shan took 8th in the LJ. Brodie set a PR to take 2nd in the disc and Colton and Corbin took 4th and 6th. Abby was 7th in the javelin. Emma recorded the furthest disc throw on the day and recorded a very good PR. Brodie had the best jav throw and Seedar finished 7th. Throws crew dominance continued in the boys shot with Goerge in 10th, Corbin 8th, Brodie 7th, Colton 2nd, and Jeff taking the win with a huge PR and State Qualifying mark! The team scores were a little skewed because of some Varsity athletes competing to try and hit marks; no matter, PV did very well and showed we have a lot of depth and young athletes for the coming years.
BYU Invite - This year, the Varsity took a full team to BYU for the first time in many years, and we did very well. Some of our top performers were Arden (PR in 100h 14th place, PR in 200 11th place, 6th place LJ), Brynlee (4th place in the 400, 17th in 200, ), Jade (SQ in 200), Abe (SQ in 200), Boys 4x800 (13th place), Zack (PR in 800), Girls 4x400 (12th place), Boys 4x400 (15th place), Tea (14th in shot with another PR), Galu (7th in shot also with another PR, 14th in disc), Jeffrey (12th in shot), TJ (11th in disc), and Sawyer (3rd in jav)

If you'd like to see how these performances stack up against various events and the last few years, take a look at the PV Performance Chart that uses a scale to rate performances across the different disciplines against each other.

Thought of the Week: "You don't have to swing the axe any harder, you just have to sharpen the blade."
-unkown
We all want to do our very best at the end of the season when we've worked so hard and are in great shape. It is because of this desire, however, that we sometimes don't reach our peak performance - we are trying SO hard, that we force things and overreach. At this time of the season, the work is really done. Now is the time to just sharpen up. You do that by keeping focused on the things that got you here: good sleep habits, eating and drinking healthy, being at practice, supporting teammates, trusting the workouts you have done for months will pay off now, and trusting your coaches and teammates. When you do these things, you don't have to force PRs, they will happen because you've done the work!

May 2-7 *Updated w/ BYU Itinerary*

Down to the end. Kinda hard to believe. Before we get to far into this, super important announcement: it is very important that everyone come to the team meeting Monday after school. Please spread the word to your teammates who might not see this for any reason. We will be finalizing BYU entries, getting signed up for JV Region, talking about who may be bumping up from JV to Varsity for Varsity region next week, and discussing our approaches to the end of the year. So those that have been injured, maybe missing a few practices, or whatever else... please be here (no one will be entered in JV Region or BYU that isn't in attendance). Other stuff - great job at the meets this weekend and thanks so much for everyone who stuck around and helped at the Youngsters Meet; it was a big one and we needed a lot of help. Also, JV Region has been changed to Crimson because of soccer playoffs.

No exact date, times, or locations have been nailed down. We won't be able to travel to this as a team (you would need to arrange your own travel and overnight plans - if needed), but any interested JV athletes are welcome to continue to train with the team for this and we will sign you up. Please let the coaches know if you are interested.

Race Report:
Cedar JV - The weather held up pretty decent for a spring meet in Cedar and we had many great performances. In the 1600, Jordyn, Elle, and Laney all took top 8. Cayson ran the 110s for the first time this season and took 3rd. Quite a few of our sprinters hit PRs in the wind including Kandi and Kristel in the 100. Chloe took 8th in the Shot for the girls. All together, the boys won the meet and the girls took 5th.
Cedar Invite - The Cedar Invite also went very well for our team. The boys took 2nd and the girls 3rd. Some top performances came from: both 4x800 teams won (with the boys earning their SQ), Arden took 4th in the 100h and earned a SQ, Brylee took 3rd in the 100 and earned a SQ, Jade took 5th in the 400 (with Macy and Claire 9th and 10th), Turner won the 400, Bentley took 8th in the 3200, Arden got a SQ in the 200 and Brynlee took 3rd, Turner took 2nd in the 200, Brook and Katie took 6th and 7th in the 800, Adri took 2nd in the 1600 and Kate and Brook were 3rd and 4th, Diego was 7th for the boys, Tori was 3rd in the hj, Trinity and Emma took 8th and 9th in the disc, Frank took 5th in the jav, Galu won the shot with Peter 3rd and Payton 6th and Colton 8th, Scott was 6th in the hj, Arden won the lj, Galu also won the disc with Peter 3rd and Payton 4th, Tea set another PR and took 4th in the shot.

If you'd like to see how these performances stack up against various events and the last few years, take a look at the PV Performance Chart that uses a scale to rate performances across the different disciplines against each other.

Athletes of the Week:
Sprint -
Kristel (Junior) is at practice every day working hard and has continued to see improvement throughout the season leading to 2 PRs this week at Cedar JV.
Payton M (Soph) has worked back from an injury that delayed his season start and is running PRs each week.
Field -
Franklin (Soph) got a nice PR and earned a BYU spot in the jav at the Cedar Invite.
Emma (Senior) made finals in the disc at Cedar.
Distance -
Diego (Junior) is developing into a strong varsity runner and had good races this weekend, especially in the 4x800.
Laney (Soph) had her best race of the season in the 1600 at Cedar JV.

Thought of the Week: "One thing about championship teams is that they're resilient. No matter what is thrown at them, no matter how deep the hole, they find a way to bounce back and overcome adversity."
-Nick Saban
In so many ways, this year has been a lot like other - some ups and some downs. But it sure feels like we have had our share of injuries and other setbacks. The reality is, though, so has everyone else. We have a tremendous season. It has been a lot of fun. The team has come together in many ways and we've grown a lot. As we put our focus on these last few meets and work to meet team and individual goals, the thing that will get us there is showing true resiliency and coming together for each other. How are we going to respond to the struggles we've had and the inevitable few that we'll still have? If we come together and support each other - if we truly care about each other and can set our own pride and fears aside - great things will happen!

April 25-30

Another great week... good job at Dixie JV and Invite everyone. These last few weeks of the season are a great time to refocus on your goals (individual and the team) and what it takes to reach those. Often we hit the last bit of a season and we see athletes quit coming to practice or just going through the motions as they see the end of the season in sight. Although we all get a little worn down, this is not the time for cooling off; now is the time we should be hyper-focused on what we want to accomplish and doing everything it takes to get there.

Schedule for the Week:
  • Monday team meeting at 3:00p in lecture hall - celebrate athletes of week, PRs, and stuff
  • Distance Crew: PM - Mon-Thurs - 3:00p (everyone), Fri pm - those doubling get run in on own, JV at Cedar / AM - Mon - 6:00a (everyone expected... workout), Tues & Thurs am - 6:15a weights and short run (Black & Silver expected; Maroon optional), Weds am - 6:15a run (Black expected, Silver optional, all invited to yoga at 6:45a), Fri am - 6:15a run (Var expected, JV optional), Saturday - at meet or on own - this week's workouts
  • Sprint Crews and Jumpers: Mon-Thurs - 3:00p (everyone), Friday - after school (Var), JV at meet
  • Throwers: Mon-Thurs - 3:00p (everyone), Friday - after school (Var), JV at meet

Schedule correction... Varsity Region will be held at Crimson (not DH as stated on the schedule)
Tues-Weds 5/11-12 - Region Championships @ Crimson 5:00p. Bus times to be announced
Fri-Sat 5/20-21 - State Championships @ BYU we will be leaving on Thursday. Overnight info will be sent out to those attending.

BYU Invite Info:
Here is the qualifying info for BYU Invite - BYU INFO. This year we are going to BYU instead of Sentinel so we can get on the track/facility that will be hosting State (very few of you have ever run there). To qualify for this meet, you must hit the required mark. However, another requirement is that we only have 25 entries. This means that even if you hit a mark, you are not guaranteed a spot at the meet. We will try our best to get everyone in an event who qualifies, but to ensure your spot keep pushing for improvements.

JV State Info:
We haven't got a much info on this (and this is the inaugural year of this meet), so here's what we know. Any JV athletes that would like to compete at a State meet just for JV athletes, there will be a meet up in Utah County somewhere around May 16-18th'ish.

Dixie Developmental Meet & Dixie Invite - Here's a big list of all the PRs set the last week: Galu - shot; Diego - 1600, 3200; Ethan - 200, 110h; AJ - 3200, jav; Bentley - 3200; Porter - 800, 1600; Zack DT - 400; Trey - 800, 3200; Tyson D - 110h, 300h, LJ; Max - LJ; Dane - 1600; Peter - disc; Dom - 400, 300h; Cayson - LJ; Bridger - 400, 800, 3200; Quincy - 200; Payton M - disc; Tyson M - 400; Nic - 200; Colton - disc; Frank - disc; Brogan - 400; Brodie - jav; Ty - shot; Parker - HJ; Coleman - 3200; Saywer - jav; Corbin - shot; Evan - 800, 1600; Talmage - 1600, 300h; Scott - HJ; Jordyn - 1600; Breanna - 100; Robin - 100h, 300h; Macy - 400; Eva - 100h, 200, jav; Kambria - 100; Tori - 400; Bella - disc; Chloe - shot, disc; Roxy - 800; Zoe - jav; Emma - shot; Arden - 100h; Claire - HJ; Brookelyn - 200; Lily - 400; Lauren - 100, 100h, 300h, disc; Brynlee - jav; Kandi - 100; Paityn - disc; Isi - 100; Makenna - LJ; Brianna - 100; Tea - shot; disc; Trinity - shot, disc, jav. Hopefully we didn't miss anyone in there! But as you can see, we have a ton of athletes ranging from experienced Varsity to new JV who are hitting great times and marks right now. That's what everyone deserves to be doing. Keep putting in the hard work and keep encouraging our teammates to be getting back to practice and back from injuries so we can pull this all together in the next few weeks and really see what our team is capable of. Mixed in to all of that were a ton of top 8 finishers at both meets that really helped us have some great team performances. At the Dixie Developmental meet, the boys took 1st and the girls 4th. And at the Dixie Invite, the boys took 2nd and the girls 3rd. Very good showings with missing some teammates for various reasons. We want to give a special shout out to Tea (shot), Claire (high jump), Adri (3200), and Marcus (400, LJ) for hitting new State Qualifiers this week and also to Trey who earned a new school record with a spectacular race in the 3200 at the Dixie Invite. And to the many that are hitting BYU qualifiers, Great Job! Those BYU marks have been a great thing for many of you to aim for and have led to some big improvements. Remember on BYU to read the info above (we will try and get everyone entered that qualifies, but it is going to be tough on a very good and big team like ours...)

If you'd like to see how these performances stack up against various events and the last few years, take a look at the PV Performance Chart that uses a scale to rate performances across the different disciplines against each other.

Athletes of the Week:
Sprint -
Macy (Senior) has really been showing a lot of improvement this year. Her 400 has continually shown improvement this year and she has been hitting PRs consistentally. She even put herself into position to make her first finals at an invite.
Tyson D (Junior) has been a tremendous example in his first season of track. He works very hard and is always at pratice and pushing himself. Each week he continues to see improvements in both his hurdles and long jump.
Field -
Scott (Senior) had a great first two meets this past week. He is high jumping very well and showing great promise there and also stepped in to run a leg of the 400 and did an excellent job.
Lauren (Junior) has improved her disc by nearly 10 feet in the past week. She has been driven by the desire to reach some very positive goals and it is paying off in a tremendous way.
Distance -
Porter (Sophomore) has really started to hit a good groove in his running. He has had multiple strong races lately and set good PRs in both his 800 and 1600 this week. If we can keep a certain coach from breaking his toes, there is great things in store for him!
Kyanne (Senior) ran a seasons best in her 800 this past week. With a difficult school schedule, she has been working hard to be to practice and be able to contribute to the team in a very positive way.

Thought of the Week: "Starting is not most people's problem; staying, continuing and finishing is."
-Darren Hardy
"Beginning in itself has no value, it is an end which makes beginning meaningful, we must end what we begun."
-Amit Kalantri
Although I do think beginning something does have value (after all, you have to start to even begin the journey), the main idea of these quotes is about pushing through and finishing something. Finishing a job well done seems to have lost some value in our society - a society where we want quick results and easy fixes. The greatest value in something does come from a wonderful journey and a well-earned completion of a task. So let's finish stuff up. Encourage our teammates who may be struggling a little. Encourage yourself. As a team, and so many of you individually, have accomplished so much this season. Let's push to the finish line and get our reward.

Check out the spring schedule if you haven't yet.

Youth Club Info: Thanks so much all of you who came out and participated with us this season. And a huge thanks to Coach Martha and the other coaches who ran the program. We have our final meet this week (although some of you may be looking forward to the District meet held at Snow Canyon in May). Please look for information to be coming out about our Summer Running Club and our PVXC Youngster Camp that we will host throughout the fall. Info will be posted in the next few weeks at pvxc.blogspot

We will try our best to get everyone in a race who qualifies, but to ensure your spot keep pushing for improvements.

Thought of the Week: "I don't want to put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the more you achieve."
-Michael Phelps
I've heard he was pretty good, I guess. It is interesting how many people who are at the absolute top of their game/profession share this same idea about no limits. From Kipchoge - "No human is limited" - to Phelps, so many people who accomplish amazing things have been able to release the idea of limits from their minds to some degree. Think of what Coach Pete talked about last week and how when we only see the positive possibilities, when can use our anxiety to fuel us to greatness by getting out of our own ways and letting the mind and body enter the flow state (the white zone). Take a few minutes and evaluate how you do in removing limits - do you struggle with limiting yourself? how can you address this and get out of your own way? are there others around you who could help support/guide you through this? what do you see possible for yourself if you remove these limits? Work on it... and go for it!

Check out the spring schedule if you haven't yet.

Youth Club Info: Our MS Developmental Track and Field Clinic is going strong. This group meets Monday and Thursday at 3:00a-4:15('ish) and is open to all PV students in 6th-8th grades. We will focus on each different track and field event and give athletes an opportunity to work with the coaches of each specialty to see what our middle school athletes may want to pursue. We will meet throughout the spring and participate and host multiple track meets. Crimson Cliffs Invite - At the 1st Crimson Cliffs Invite, we had another solid Varsity performance. Trey won the 3200 in a great time despite running most of the race by himself. Arden took 3rd in her 1st 100 hurdle race ever and is now ranked 2nd in 4A. Abe earned his SQ with a 5th place finish in the 100 and Nic took 7th. Brynlee ran a great 400, breaking into the 58s to take 2nd and Jade took 7th; Claire and Rachel also continue to improve their times there. In the 300h Arden placed 8th. In the 200, Brynlee took 3rd and got her SQ, Arden and Jade took 6th and 7th. Abe took 4th in the boys race. Adri, Brook, and Katie took 3rd-5th in the 1600. The guys 4x400 took 1st to earn a SQ (Marcus, Diego, Trey, Turner). Tori and Rachel cleared 4'10" to place 4th and 6th in the hj. The throwers went big with Sawyer winning the jav; Peter, Galu, Payton, and TJ going 1, 2, 3, 7 in the shot; Galu, TJ, Payton, and Peter going 2, 4, 6, 7 in the disc; and Tea taking 4th in the shot. Rachel hit a nice PR in the lj to take 5th. Both teams ended the meet in 2nd place.

If you'd like to see how these performances stack up against various events and the last few years, take a look at the PV Performance Chart that uses a scale to rate performances across the different disciplines against each other.

Athletes of the Week:
Sprint -
Brianna (Sophomore) has worked her way back from a broken wrist suffered at the beginning of the season. During this whole time, she continued to come out and support her teammates by cheering at races and being at practice. It's great to have her back practicing and racing.
Nic (Senior) has been working very hard in his workouts and doing what he needs to help the team be the best it can. This week, Nic ran a PR 100 and helped the 4x100 SQ.
Field -
Chloe (Sophomore) is a tremendous teammate. She is always supporting and cheering on her team - especially her throws crew - while continuing to improve her own marks.
Payton (Senior) has really hit some great marks this week. He threw PRs in both his shot and disc. He is also always willing to step in and help coach up his teammates in positive ways.
Distance -
Talmage (Sophomore) ran a strong 800 PR and then came back just an hour later to run a 1600 without complaint. Although he was really worn out, he still pushed himself and tried his best.
Kate (Sophomore) ran a very strong 800 at Crimson. She is a super teammate who holds herself and others to the high standard it takes to be on the best girls distance crew in the state.

Thought of the Week: "When we lose, we experience a rise in cortisol leaving us apprehensive, anxious, and more likely to avoid instead of approaching the problem. The best performers move on quickly - learn from the loss, then refocus on the problem. They don't let it linger."
-Steve Magness
Not that there was a particular moment that brought this thought to mind, but all of us have experiences (races, tests, relationships) that don't go as well as we would like. The key to making yourself a better person is recognizing why there was a struggle, learn from it, and then refocus on doing better. When we dwell on the negative or just avoid it, we never truly move on and we never give ourselves a chance to improve and grow.

Ryder (Sophomore) had a big improvement in his hj and looks to be a big contributor for years in the sprints and jumps with his hard work and leadership.

Adri (Junior) earned her SQ in the 800 and followed that with a great leg in the 4x400. She is a very hard worker and has led the distance crew by example throughout her career.
Jordyn (Freshman) has been a great contributor to the girls distance squad. She works very hard and has a great attitude.

Thought of the Week: "It's not the team with the best players that win. It's the players with the best team that wins"
-unknown
You catching a theme from the last few weeks? Hopefully... I really don't know too many things in life that aren't made better by being part of a great team. The opportunity to be surrounded by those with similar goals, like, and drive is something very special. Even the inevitable conflict that arises provides us an opportunity to grow and be stronger when we remember to work together with respect and see other points of view. We encourage each of you to keep evaluating your contributions to the team and highlight the positive things you bring to our success and helping others shine with their positive contributions.

March 28 - April 2

Just another huge thanks to everyone in pulling all the everything together for the Invite: Parents and family - your help with concession, the coaches' dinner (which was a huge hit!), those who helped at the timing both, and those who ran events; Athletes - your work at the field events, helping with the hurdles, moving blocks, doing the finish shoot, clean up, announcing,, bringing gatorades, timing; and all the other stuff that was needed was great. Although the meet was huge (1496 athletes and nearly 3000 participations) we pulled it off with only a few hiccups and with many, many compliments. Now on to the next order of business... continuing to develop our team and our own selves to be the best we can be this year and beyond.

Brooklyn (Junior) improved on her season's bests in both the 1600 and 3200 at PV with times of 5:30 and 11:34.

Thought of the Week: "What keeps your daily runs from bein monotonous? How do you keep from getting too down during injuries? How can I hold myself responsible during tough workouts? Who is there to make me feel like what I'm doing is worthwhile? TEAMMATES. 100% TEAMMATES."
-@hansonsrun
Why do we do anything we do? We enjoy being around others who are also doing it and they help us be our best selves. Teammates are what it is all about. Keep doing the things that make you a great teammate and work to cut out those things that distract you from being a great teammate. For each of us those are different things - some might be great at getting to practice, others at getting out and cheering teammates on. Yet others may struggle at those very same things. Together we can accentuate the good and work toward eliminating the struggles. Then, together, we can achieve what we never thought possible.

Thought of the Week: "I used to go into races with 'something to prove' and I realized that, for me, it was a big insecurity issue. Now I go into races believing what I know I can be and that I can allow everyone else to shine with me."
-Nico Montanez
This is a pretty cool idea... I think often we are so worried about being the best and proving that we are so good or whatever, that those thoughts end up being a block to us doing our best. When we are able to let that type of thinking go and just focus on being our best self, trusting the hard work and training that we've done, and realizing that it's great if others do well because that helps push us even more... when we are able to have a mindset shift, we can really become better athletes and people.

Check out the spring schedule if you haven't yet.

March 14-19

What a great start to the season! The Panther Relays were a lot of fun, and then we had a great meet at SC. This is a pretty big week now as we head into what could be called "Commitment Week". Most of the team has gotten into a race/event or two and can now start building some individual goals and our team has had the opportunity to see what we can do if we work hard, support each other, and all strive to really be a part of this track thing. So as we enter Spring Break, we look to each of you to be committed to what you want to become this season and what we want our team to become. If you are in town, let's be to practice. If you are out of town, do your very best to get your workouts in (even if it just some sort of practice - a run, work in a weight room, sprints up and down the street or the beach, whatever... something that will help you and the team keep pushing to be our best).

Schedule for the Week:
  • Distance Crew: PM - Mon-Fri - 8:00a at PVHS, Sat - TBA / this week's workouts
  • Sprint Crews and Jumpers: Mon-Fri - 9:00a at PVHS
  • Throwers: Mon-Fri - 9:00a at PVHS
Upcoming Events:

IF YOU DIDN'T LET COACH KNOW WHAT EVENTS YOU ARE DOING, PLEASE DO... Contact via Remind text, or sign up at practice this week.

Race Reports:
Panther Relays - This was a great first meet of the year. It was a bit cold, but a fun opportunity to get out and participate in a few events against other teams in a low-stress environment. Thanks everyone that showed up.

Snow Canyon Invite - The team did very well at the SC Invite this weekend. Although we were missing a few key people on both the girls and guys teams, we still had a lot of finalists and State Qualifiers (SQ). And, of course, we had a lot of PRs (Personal Records). The meet started out with Adri's strong run in the 1600 taking 8th place. In the boys' 1600, Trey earned a SQ with a great time of 4:24.50. Bridger also had a great race and was the 3rd fastest Freshman in the meet. In the girls 100, our sprint crew ran very solid - Jade earned a SQ in her first race and made it to finals where she placed 8th. Brynlee J. and Rachel A. also had strong runs. Marcus looked excellent in his first race and earned a SQ and a NEW SCHOOL RECORD in the prelims, but then topped that time with a 10.58 in winning the finals on Saturday. Turner, Maxx, and Jacob ran well, also. Brynlee J. qualified 4th in the 400 and improved up to 3rd in the finals in a SQ level performance. Claire, Rachel M., and Adri also had great runs. Turner took 3rd in the prelims and finals of the 400 and is setting himself up as the top 400 guy in 4A. in the 300h, Tori just missed out on finals with a tremendous improvement in the first week of racing. Brynlee S. and Lauren had good runs as well. Braxton ran a good starting 300h for the guys. In the 200, Brynlee J. missed out on finals by just one spot. The rest of the girls (Rachel A., Jade, Rachel M., Tori, and Claire) all really ran well, too. Marcus again took the top spot in the 200 prelims and finals and earned another SQ. Jacob and Turner weren't too far off finals spots either. In the 3200, Brook ran a good race as our sole representative to take 10th. Trey once again wowed with a NEW SCHOOL RECORD in a time of 9:27.41 in earning a SQ. Our girls 800 crew ran well with Adri taking 4th, Katie 8th, and Kyanne in 12th. Zack put up a good time in the guys' race to be our top finisher. Our young boys high jump crew saw good results from Spencer B. and Cayson. The girls did great with Rachel M. and Tori clearing 5-00 to earn SQs. Isi wasn't far off at 4-8, and Brynlee S. cleared 4-6. Robin hit a nice PR in the LJ to be our top finisher at over 14 feet. In the discus, June had a good start to the season with the 3rd furthest throw in our Region. June also led the team in javelin. In the girls' shot put, Tea had our top mark and the top Freshman mark in the entire meet. The boys' shot had a strong Panther presence as Peter and TJ both SQed in taking 3rd and 5th. TJ also recorded our top long jump mark on the guys' team. Not to take it easy, TJ then followed up with some massive throws in the disc to earn a SQ and place 3rd. Galu was right behind in earning his own SQ and taking 5th. To round out our throwing dominance, Sawyer had a great javelin to take 5th and collect another Panther SQ. Overall the girls placed 14th out of 30 scoring teams (this is a placement that will without a doubt be improved on a ton throughout the year... we are a very good team!) and the guys ended up 2nd (so, not to shabby!). This was a tremendous start to the season. With out top performers and strong solid depth to support the team, we are going to be able to do a lot of great things this year.

Thought of the Week: "Commitment is an act, not a word."
-Jean-Paul Sartre
A lot of people like to talk about how good they could be and how they could set records or do this or that. But the reality is that very few actually will do the work needed to accomplish those things. Working hard is... well hard. It is sometimes painful. It is sometimes scary to think you might not actually be as good as you hope. It requires dedication. It requires humility to realize you have room to grow. And because of this, way more people talk than act. And because of this, very few people actually become improve and become great at something. We call this week "Commitment Week" because a lot of you are gone. And since school is out, it is easy to just miss practice. It is easy to stay up late. It is easy to sleep in. It is easy to just say you want to do good. But are you ready to act? We'll see this week.
