April 4-9

We just have to say... as coaches, this is really some of the most fun we have ever had with track. Thank you. Thank you for having a great attitude; thank you for working hard; thank you for putting your team first; thank you for caring about and supporting others; thank you for your example to others; thank you for having fun. And if for some reason this doesn't seem to be you, go make it you - get more involved with the team and see how it changes your perspective. Also a big thanks for all your help at the youth meet and down at Fossil's Donut Run. It is great to see you out there influencing the next generation of tracksters.

BYU Invite Info:
Here is the qualifying info for BYU Invite - BYU INFO. This year we are going to BYU instead of Sentinel so we can get on the track/facility that will be hosting State (very few of you have ever run there). To qualify for this meet, you must hit the required mark. However, another requirement is that we only have 25 entries. This means that even if you hit a mark, you are not guaranteed a spot at the meet. We will try our best to get everyone in a race who qualifies, but to insure your spot keep pushing for improvements.

Race Report:
Desert Hills Invite - Another very solid week for the team. Even with the 1 day schedule that requires a different approach to entries and missing a few key athletes, our team scored very well. The boys took 3rd and the girls tied for 2nd.We had a ton of athletes scoring: Jade and Arden 5th and 6th in the 100; Nic 6th in the 100; Rachel 7th in the 400; Turner and Trey 1st and 4th in the 400; Dom 6th in the 300h; Adri and Brook 3rd and 8th in the 800; Rachel 6th in the 200; Turner 4th in the 200; Kate 3rd in the 1600; Trey 2nd in the 1600; Sawyer and Brodie 1st and 6th in the jav; Peter, Galu, TJ, and Colton 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 7th in the shot put; Arden 1st in the long jump; TJ and Galu 2nd and 4th in the discus; Tea 3rd in the shot put; 4x200 girls 2nd; 4x400 girls 1st; and 4x800 girls 2nd. We also had a ton of Season's Bests and Personal Records mixed in there. We also got a few new State Qualifiers: Arden in the 100 and Long Jump, the 4x200 and 4x400 girls, Adri in the 800, and Galu in the shot.
If you'd like to see how these performances stack up against various events and the last few years, take a look at the PV Performance Chart that uses a scale to rate performances across the different disciplines against each other.

Athletes of the Week:
Sprint -
Ryder (Sophomore) had a big improvement in his hj and looks to be a big contributor for years in the sprints and jumps with his hard work and leadership.
Brynlee (Senior) helped the 4x200 and 4x400 earn their SQs at DH. Brynlee has been a steady presence of leadership and consistency throughout her years on the team.
Field -
Trinity (Sophomore) showed great potential in her first track meet with very solid marks in all her throws.
Brodie (Sophomore) has been hitting PRs every week in each of his field events. This week, Brodie took 6th in the jav at DH.
Distance -
Adri (Junior) earned her SQ in the 800 and followed that with a great leg in the 4x400. She is a very hard worker and has led the distance crew by example throughout her career.
Jordyn (Freshman) has been a great contributor to the girls distance squad. She works very hard and has a great attitude.

Thought of the Week: "It's not the team with the best players that win. It's the players with the best team that wins"
-unknown
You catching a theme from the last few weeks? Hopefully... I really don't know too many things in life that aren't made better by being part of a great team. The opportunity to be surrounded by those with similar goals, like, and drive is something very special. Even the inevitable conflict that arises provides us an opportunity to grow and be stronger when we remember to work together with respect and see other points of view. We encourage each of you to keep evaluating your contributions to the team and highlight the positive things you bring to our success and helping others shine with their positive contributions.

Check out the spring schedule if you haven't yet.

Youth Club Info: Our MS Developmental Track and Field Clinic is going strong. This group meets Monday and Thursday at 3:00a-4:15('ish) and is open to all PV students in 6th-8th grades. We will focus on each different track and field event and give athletes an opportunity to work with the coaches of each specialty to see what our middle school athletes may want to pursue. We will meet throughout the spring and participate and host multiple track meets. (meet schedule can be found by clicking schedule link in the above paragraph and scrolling through to the Youth schedule.)
