April 25-30

Another great week... good job at Dixie JV and Invite everyone. These last few weeks of the season are a great time to refocus on your goals (individual and the team) and what it takes to reach those. Often we hit the last bit of a season and we see athletes quit coming to practice or just going through the motions as they see the end of the season in sight. Although we all get a little worn down, this is not the time for cooling off; now is the time we should be hyper-focused on what we want to accomplish and doing everything it takes to get there.

BYU Invite Info:
Here is the qualifying info for BYU Invite - BYU INFO. This year we are going to BYU instead of Sentinel so we can get on the track/facility that will be hosting State (very few of you have ever run there). To qualify for this meet, you must hit the required mark. However, another requirement is that we only have 25 entries. This means that even if you hit a mark, you are not guaranteed a spot at the meet. We will try our best to get everyone in an event who qualifies, but to ensure your spot keep pushing for improvements.

JV State Info:
We haven't got a much info on this (and this is the inaugural year of this meet), so here's what we know. Any JV athletes that would like to compete at a State meet just for JV athletes, there will be a meet up in Utah County somewhere around May 16-18th'ish. No exact date, times, or locations have been nailed down. We won't be able to travel to this as a team (you would need to arrange your own travel and overnight plans - if needed), but any interested JV athletes are welcome to continue to train with the team for this and we will sign you up. Please let the coaches know if you are interested.

Hopefully we didn't miss anyone in there! But as you can see, we have a ton of athletes ranging from experienced Varsity to new JV who are hitting great times and marks right now. That's what everyone deserves to be doing. Keep putting in the hard work and keep encouraging our teammates to be getting back to practice and back from injuries so we can pull this all together in the next few weeks and really see what our team is capable of. Mixed in to all of that were a ton of top 8 finishers at both meets that really helped us have some great team performances. At the Dixie Developmental meet, the boys took 1st and the girls 4th. And at the Dixie Invite, the boys took 2nd and the girls 3rd. Very good showings with missing some teammates for various reasons. We want to give a special shout out to Tea (shot), Claire (high jump), Adri (3200), and Marcus (400, LJ) for hitting new State Qualifiers this week and also to Trey who earned a new school record with a spectacular race in the 3200 at the Dixie Invite. And to the many that are hitting BYU qualifiers, Great Job! Those BYU marks have been a great thing for many of you to aim for and have led to some big improvements. Remember on BYU to read the info above (we will try and get everyone entered that qualifies, but it is going to be tough on a very good and big team like ours...)

If you'd like to see how these performances stack up against various events and the last few years, take a look at the PV Performance Chart that uses a scale to rate performances across the different disciplines against each other.

Athletes of the Week:
Sprint -
Macy (Senior) has really been showing a lot of improvement this year. Her 400 has continually shown improvement this year and she has been hitting PRs consistentally. She even put herself into position to make her first finals at an invite.
Tyson D (Junior) has been a tremendous example in his first season of track. He works very hard and is always at pratice and pushing himself. Each week he continues to see improvements in both his hurdles and long jump.
Field -
Scott (Senior) had a great first two meets this past week. He is high jumping very well and showing great promise there and also stepped in to run a leg of the 400 and did an excellent job.
Lauren (Junior) has improved her disc by nearly 10 feet in the past week. She has been driven by the desire to reach some very positive goals and it is paying off in a tremendous way.
Distance -
Porter (Sophomore) has really started to hit a good groove in his running. He has had multiple strong races lately and set good PRs in both his 800 and 1600 this week. If we can keep a certain coach from breaking his toes, there is great things in store for him!
Kyanne (Senior) ran a seasons best in her 800 this past week. With a difficult school schedule, she has been working hard to be to practice and be able to contribute to the team in a very positive way.

Thought of the Week: "Starting is not most people's problem; staying, continuing and finishing is."
-Darren Hardy
"Beginning in itself has no value, it is an end which makes beginning meaningful, we must end what we begun."
-Amit Kalantri
Although I do think beginning something does have value (after all, you have to start to even begin the journey), the main idea of these quotes is about pushing through and finishing something. Finishing a job well done seems to have lost some value in our society - a society where we want quick results and easy fixes. The greatest value in something does come from a wonderful journey and a well-earned completion of a task. So let's finish stuff up. Encourage our teammates who may be struggling a little. Encourage yourself. As a team, and so many of you individually, have accomplished so much this season. Let's push to the finish line and get our reward.

Check out the spring schedule if you haven't yet.

Youth Club Info: Thanks so much all of you who came out and participated with us this season. And a huge thanks to Coach Martha and the other coaches who ran the program. We have our final meet this week (although some of you may be looking forward to the District meet held at Snow Canyon in May). Please look for information to be coming out about our Summer Running Club and our PVXC Youngster Camp that we will host throughout the fall. Info will be posted in the next few weeks at pvxc.blogspot
