Race Report:
JV Region - We just want to say great job to all our JV athletes who finished up the season. It's a tough thing to keep coming out to practice and pushing yourself when you might not get much time at the invites and championship meets. But your efforts don't go unnoticed - you are a huge part of this team. Your effort, attitude, and hard work are the heart and soul of our program. And for those that are underclassmen, you are laying the foundation of future Varsity seasons with your perserverance. We're excited for you to come back next year, and we urge you to come get involved even in the winter if you're not in a winter sport. Rememeber, that many of our best track and field athletes spent time developing at the JV level before reaching the level they are at today.
At JV Region, we had many strong performances. Kyanne took 2nd in the 1600 and Jordyn set a PR to take 7th. Talmage took 5th in the boys 1600 and Evan went sub 5 for the first time. The girls 4x100 took 6th and the boys took 4th and 8th. Eva took 3rd in the 100h with a very solid time. Tyson took 3rd in the 110h and 2nd in the 300h, while Talmage took 8th. Elle won the 800 with Jordyn taking 3rd. In the 3200, Grant took 4th. Macy took 7th with her first 200 of the season. And Costa took 8th in his 200. The boys 4x400 took 4th. Brynlee S. was 4th in the HJ and Parker took 1st for the boys. Shan took 8th in the LJ. Brodie set a PR to take 2nd in the disc and Colton and Corbin took 4th and 6th. Abby was 7th in the javelin. Emma recorded the furthest disc throw on the day and recorded a very good PR. Brodie had the best jav throw and Seedar finished 7th. Throws crew dominance continued in the boys shot with Goerge in 10th, Corbin 8th, Brodie 7th, Colton 2nd, and Jeff taking the win with a huge PR and State Qualifying mark! The team scores were a little skewed because of some Varsity athletes competing to try and hit marks; no matter, PV did very well and showed we have a lot of depth and young athletes for the coming years.
BYU Invite - This year, the Varsity took a full team to BYU for the first time in many years, and we did very well. Some of our top performers were Arden (PR in 100h 14th place, PR in 200 11th place, 6th place LJ), Brynlee (4th place in the 400, 17th in 200, ), Jade (SQ in 200), Abe (SQ in 200), Boys 4x800 (13th place), Zack (PR in 800), Girls 4x400 (12th place), Boys 4x400 (15th place), Tea (14th in shot with another PR), Galu (7th in shot also with another PR, 14th in disc), Jeffrey (12th in shot), TJ (11th in disc), and Sawyer (3rd in jav)

If you'd like to see how these performances stack up against various events and the last few years, take a look at the PV Performance Chart that uses a scale to rate performances across the different disciplines against each other.

Thought of the Week: "You don't have to swing the axe any harder, you just have to sharpen the blade."
-unkown
We all want to do our very best at the end of the season when we've worked so hard and are in great shape. It is because of this desire, however, that we sometimes don't reach our peak performance - we are trying SO hard, that we force things and overreach. At this time of the season, the work is really done. Now is the time to just sharpen up. You do that by keeping focused on the things that got you here: good sleep habits, eating and drinking healthy, being at practice, supporting teammates, trusting the workouts you have done for months will pay off now, and trusting your coaches and teammates. When you do these things, you don't have to force PRs, they will happen because you've done the work!

May 2-7 *Updated w/ BYU Itinerary*

Down to the end. Kinda hard to believe. Before we get to far into this, super important announcement: it is very important that everyone come to the team meeting Monday after school. Please spread the word to your teammates who might not see this for any reason. We will be finalizing BYU entries, getting signed up for JV Region, talking about who may be bumping up from JV to Varsity for Varsity region next week, and discussing our approaches to the end of the year. So those that have been injured, maybe missing a few practices, or whatever else... please be here (no one will be entered in JV Region or BYU that isn't in attendance). Other stuff - great job at the meets this weekend and thanks so much for everyone who stuck around and helped at the Youngsters Meet; it was a big one and we needed a lot of help. Also, JV Region has been changed to Crimson because of soccer playoffs.

Payton M (Soph) has worked back from an injury that delayed his season start and is running PRs each week.
Field -
Franklin (Soph) got a nice PR and earned a BYU spot in the jav at the Cedar Invite.
Emma (Senior) made finals in the disc at Cedar.
Distance -
Diego (Junior) is developing into a strong varsity runner and had good races this weekend, especially in the 4x800.
Laney (Soph) had her best race of the season in the 1600 at Cedar JV.

Thought of the Week: "One thing about championship teams is that they're resilient. No matter what is thrown at them, no matter how deep the hole, they find a way to bounce back and overcome adversity."
-Nick Saban
In so many ways, this year has been a lot like other - some ups and some downs. But it sure feels like we have had our share of injuries and other setbacks. The reality is, though, so has everyone else. We have a tremendous season. It has been a lot of fun. The team has come together in many ways and we've grown a lot. As we put our focus on these last few meets and work to meet team and individual goals, the thing that will get us there is showing true resiliency and coming together for each other. How are we going to respond to the struggles we've had and the inevitable few that we'll still have? If we come together and support each other - if we truly care about each other and can set our own pride and fears aside - great things will happen!
