Week of Feb. 25 - Mar. 2

Already one week (of cold weather) down.  We are actually getting close to our first meet!  So the season is in full swing, but we are still open to registration for those who haven't come out and want to.

Registration:  Everyone needs to do their registermyathlete in the this week (found at registermyathlete.com).  If you have competed in a sport at PVHS this school year, this will be an easy few clicks of the button and you'll be done.  If you haven't competed in a sport this year, you will also need to get your PHYSICAL.  This needs to be done ASAP.  And finally, everyone needs to get his/her PARTICIPATION FEE paid.  This can be done at PVHS, through registermyathlete, or at myschoolfees.com (I think).  All these steps must be complete by the end of this week.

Meet Schedule: Check out the 2019 schedule on the link to the right.

Athletes of the Week: We will begin taking nominations for Athletes of the Week. Get your nominations in (via text or email).  List the name and a short reason why he/she has earned it.  These need to be submitted by Monday at lunch.

Schedule for the Week:
Monday - regular practice schedule with a team meeting in the PVHS lecture hall.  (Distance runners check your schedule, for long run in the morning at 5:30a - wear white/bright clothing.)
Tuesday - Friday - regular practice schedule.  If you plan on attending the State BBall tourney, make sure you talk with your event coaches and get your workout and do it as best as possible.

Athletes in Other Sports: Those of you are still finishing up a season, keep on doing great things.  See you when your season is over.  Those who finished recently, come on out to practice (even if you need a few days to recover before you get started, come out to practice and meet the coaches and the team, let us know your plans, and get your registration done).

Important Announcements for the PV Invite... please read - we'll leave this up here for a couple weeks... The dance has been moved to the Saturday of the PV Invite.  It is imperative that ALL athletes are at the meet Friday and Saturday to help at the meet (on other dance/meet days, we will try and work schedules out as best as possible, but this time you MUST be there).  So please plan your day date (or tell your dance date) with this in mind.  Saturday meet clean up usually finishes by 2:00p.  I know this is a pain, but PLEASE plan on being available to help.
Parent Help - We will need a lot of parent help at the Invite (March 22nd-23rd).  If you are willing to volunteer to work in the concessions, at the timing tent, or with the field event weigh-ins, please let Coach Holt know ASAP (pineviewtrack@gmail.com or reply to the Remind text)

Youngsters: Practice for our 6th-8th grade developmental camp will be held Monday and Thursday from 3:00-4:00 at PVHS.  Get paperwork at practice.  Youth meet (for grades K-8th) schedule has been updated.

PV Alumni Update: Congrats to two outstanding PV track and field alumni from last year.  Carson Horspool (Weber State) competed in his first Big Sky Indoor Conference Championships in the 5000 and 3000.  And Celeste Fiame set the initial school record for Dixie State University in the javelin at her first outdoor meet with a throw of near 120 feet.

Thought of the Week: "Start where you are.  Use what you have.  Do what you can." -Arthur Ashe
Often our biggest fear of trying something new is that we aren't good enough.  We'll tell you this - no one is good when they are just starting.  It takes time, dedication, and commitment to become good at something.  So as we start off a new season, we challenge each of you to grab a friend and challenge them to come get started at this track and field thing with you.  And when they say, "Oh, I'm no good," remind them that all of us start somewhere and grow from there - even the very best!

Thought of the Week: "The beginning is the most important part of the work." - Plato
Right... you gotta start somewhere.  And if you haven't yet, the time is now.  Something that is tough to see as a teacher and coach is young students/athletes who are too afraid to start something.  We all want to be great; but often we are afraid that we won't be great at the beginning, so we never start.  However, once we realize that the actual start is the most important part of the process to whatever level of greatness we may achieve, we can set those fears aside and get on with the journey.  And that is what the beginning of a season is in so many ways - the opportunity to set aside fears and get on the path to becoming our best selves.  So... lace 'em up and let's get going - together; as Panthers!
