Week of March 26 - 31 and PV Invite Recap

We will say this a million times over... Thanks so much for all of your help at the Invite.  It went so well.  So much parent help to cover everything we needed.  All of you athletes that helped out in the sun all day (both days).  Everyone who stood on blocks for hours.  Everybody who jumped up and helped with hurdles and finish shoot and got water over and over.  All trash picker uppers.  And everything else!  You couldn't count the number of positive remarks we had on the meet.  Thank you, thank you.
Since we were so busy, you may have missed some of the great performance we had at the meet, so here's a little recap.  Overall our teams did great.  Some of our best team results in many years.  The boys finished 5th in a very tight pack.  And the ladies placed a strong 9th.  Leading to a 6th in the combined standings.  Some of our top results: Alli Baker setting a new PVHS Freshman record in the 1600 and State Qualifying in her first race of the year with a 5:13; Jacob Mpungi win a 3rd in the 100 and a State Qualifying 11.30 and a 1st in an injury shortened LJ; Samson Doyle making finals in both the 200 and 400; Jake McArthur with a 6th in the 110h and State Qualified in 300h with a 41.81 while taking 4th; the boys 4x100 of Michael Moten, Jacob Mpungi, Jacobe Turlington, and Samson Doyle came out of the middle heat to take 2nd at State Qualify; the girls Medley Relay of Yrene Heinze, Autumn Bishop, Alli Baker, and Jacey Finch placed 2nd; the boys Medley Relay of Micheal Moten, Sherm Jensen, Samson Doyle, and Alex Hill took 3rd and State Qualified with a time of 3:41; in addition to Jacob's 1st in the LJ, we had two other finalists with Michael Moten placing 3rd and Colin Tudor placing 8th; Celeste Fiame had a huge win in the javelin with a State Qualifying throw of 117"; and finally, Gina Wright had a huge improvement in the shot to take 2nd.  And the list of PR's (Personal Records) and SB's (Season's Bests) is much too long to list... so great job to all of you!

Athletes of the Week: Email or text your nominations for AotW by Monday morning (remember it can be anyone who displays the awesomeness of PV Track and Field.  Tell us who and why in your comments. (Let's get more than 3 of you doing nominations!)

Now even though we get to take a little breath, next week is a pretty busy one as well:
JV Meet on Tuesday: JV Race at Cedar (most everyone who isn't in the top 4 or so on our team in their events is "JV").  The meet starts at 4:00 at Cedar HS.  The bus will leave PVHS at 2:15 and then we'll go get the 9th graders at.  HS out at 2:00 and MS out at 2:15.  Those 9th graders who are going on the Bio field trip need to know by Monday (at the team meeting) if you are going to be able to get to Cedar to compete so we can sign you up for events (PARENTS... if you want to give permission for your child to ride with someone else's parent up to the meet, you MUST send a signed note with your student to practice tomorrow to get approval by the administration).
Youth Meet on Wednesday: Our first (of three) K-8th Meets will be on Wednesday after practice (from 3:45-6:00).  We will need a lot of help with this meet.  This is a great opportunity to give back to the sport that gives a lot to you and help prep our future Panthers.  If you need service hours for something use this to count some time.  This is basically required for everyone to be at and help.  So clear your schedule.  The other meets will be April 18th and May 2nd.  Spread the word to anyone you know who might want to come participate.
Long Weekend: We don't have school Friday and Monday, but we need to have practice.  Please do your best to arrange your schedules to be available for practice at 8:00 each of those mornings.

Quote:  Last week we talked about vulnerability and how being open is not a weakness, rather a strength that will lead to great growth.  If we are out here doing this very tough thing of track and field, we might as well try and grow to our best selves.  Doing that requires you to take a look at what is helping you grow and what is holding you back.  Here's a thought about that very idea.
