Week of Mar 11-16 & Snow Canyon Recap

Spring Break week!  Awesome because of the weather and time off of school and vacations and all that stuff; but really awesome because this is the time that you really prove if you want to achieve your goals for the season.  Are you going to push yourself and get all your workouts in during a week with no school?

Registration:  This has got to be done by now! registermyathlete and participation fees must all be complete and cleared to participate with our team in any way.

Athletes of the Week:
Last week we only had nominees for the distance crew.  So sprints and field let's step up and send in some names!  We had a lot of great performances at Snow Canyon to choose from.
Distance- Jason Lunt and Jenna Boyer
Get your nominations in for this week (via text or email). List the name and a short reason why he/she has earned it.  These need to be submitted by Monday at lunch when we get back to school.  (We'll actually do two weeks when we get back from break.)

Schedule for the Week:
Each crew has their own practice schedule this week... check it out below:
Distance - Workouts are posted, so get them all in!
Monday - on own or organize your own group long run
     Tuesday - on own
Wednesday - 8:00a at the HS
     Thursday - on own
Friday - 8:00a at the HS
Saturday - on own or organize you own group run
Throws - Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:00a at the HS
All Sprints (Short and Long) -  Monday - Friday at the HS at 8:00a

Youngsters: Practice Monday at 3:00p at 2450 Park

Everyone do your very best to get in all your workouts.  If you are in town, please be to practice!  If you are out of town, do SOMETHING!

Upcoming Meets: Tuesday back from Spring Break is a JV meet at DH.  Then that Fri/Sat is the PV Invite.  Everyone will be competing at one of these meets.

Can you still join track?: We are still looking for track athletes, but registration and fees must be taken care of.  So go to registermyathlete and get it done.

Important Announcement for the PV Invite... please read - we'll leave this up here for a couple weeks... The dance has been moved to the Saturday of the PV Invite.  It is imperative that ALL athletes are at the meet Friday and Saturday to help at the meet (on other dance/meet days, we will try and work schedules out as best as possible, but this time you MUST be there).  So please plan your day date (or tell your dance date) with this in mind.  Saturday meet clean up usually finishes by 2:00p.  I know this is a pain, but PLEASE plan on being available to help.
Parent Help - We will need a lot of parent help at the Invite.  If you are willing to volunteer to work in the concessions, at the timing tent, or with the field event weigh-ins, please let Coach Holt know ASAP (pineviewtrack@gmail.com or reply to the Remind text).  Thanks for all those who have volunteered.  We still need many more - we are struggling to get help at the field events (we will train you and have all the helpers you will ever need there!)

Snow Canyon Invite:  What a great start to the season for the Panthers!  Taking advantage of the nice new track and (sometimes) good weather, we were able to get a lot of people to hit PRs (Personal Records), and even some Herriman and State Qualifiers.  Some of our top finishers and outstanding performances:  Alli started the Utah high school track season off with a bang running at NEW SCHOOL RECORD in the 1600 and a first place in a time of 5:00.51 (just over half a second from breaking 5:00... amazing!).  Pyper also placed, finishing 8th with a huge PR in 5:30.  In the boys 1600 Julien placed 6th.  We also saw great races from Luke, Scottie, and Jason.  Arden started her hs career with a strong run in the 100.  And in the boys 100 Marcus (Fresh) and Sherm (Soph) went 1st and 3rd and Marcus grabbed his first SQ (State Qualifier).  We saw some strong times from our girls in the 400 - Yrene, Jada, and Mady).  Our girls 4x800 teams went 1st and 3rd.  And our boys 4x800 team placed 2nd.  We saw a 3rd place from our girls 4x200 team, and a 4th and 6th place finish from the boys in teh 4x200.  In the girls 3200 Jessica finished 2nd and got a SQ and Rylee ran a strong 5th, just off the SQ.  Another strong race in the 3200 was Kylee's thrilling heat win in a big PR.  The boys scored strong in the 3200 with Julien and Cooper breaking 10:00 finishing 3rd and 4th and Scottie also picking up points in 7th.  James hit the finals in both the 110h and 300h taking 6th in both.  The boys 4x100 grabbed a 6th place finish.  Some of our younger girls ran well in the 800, including PRs from Jenna, Brinley, and Kennis.  In the boys race, Evan scored with a 7th place finish and Zach ran a strong race in his first hs track meet.  The girls medley ran a very solid time and placed 2nd.  In the boys 200, Marcus and Sherm once again ran a thrilling race.  This time taking 1st and 2nd, respectively, and both getting a State Qualifying time!  The girls 4x400 placed 4th.  Brynlee made finals in the jav and placed 7th.  Douglas also made finals in the guy's jav and placed 8th.  A few of our rookie shot putters, Brennan, Peter, and Payton (on the guy's side), and Rebecca (on the girl's side) threw very well.  Gina had a strong start to the season and placed 2nd in the Shot.  Mady and Ellie both did well in their jumps (Long and High, respectively).  Dallin had a strong meet and placed 5th in the High Jump and 3rd in the Long Jump.  And finally, Nick picked up where he left off last year in the Disc and took 5th with a SQ of his own.  Overall, these great performances led to very solid team performances for us.  The ladies ended up 5th after holding a solid 2nd for most of the meet.  And in a good invite with 16 scoring teams and all the teams from Region 9, the boys were a solid 2nd!  Great meet everyone!

Thought of the Week: "The hardest thing to do is work when no one is looking." -Ray Lewis
This is character week!  How badly do you really want to reach your goals?  Often we have great visions of ourselves.  But are we really willing to work for it when no one is there to watch over you or guide you through every step?  This is an important time of the season to be hitting big workouts.  So dig down deep and push yourself.  Find a way to be committed.  And ultimately, this will be a week that you can look back on and say that much of what you accomplished this season happened because of what you did right now.
