Mar. 13 - 18 :: Spring Break Week and Hurr JV & SC Invite Recap

A great start to races - it was fun to see our younger athletes getting in their first meet and our Varsity athletes working toward getting some of their goals. There is a recap of each this past week's meets down below. This coming week is Spring Break! Make sure you know your workout schedule from your event coach and do the best you can to stick to it.

Meet Recaps:
Hurricane JV - We had a very solid first meet of the year at Hurricane. Here's a quick rundown of some of our top performances: Spencer led our sprint crew in the 100 and we had some solid times from Carson C, Kevin, Max, Carson B, Ethan and Cole who all broke 13.00; Ashley took 1st in the 100 overall in her first meet; she also took first in her 200 and we had solid performance from our sprint ladies; for the boys in the 200, the young guys led the way with our top times all coming from sophs and freshmen; our 400 girls were all distance girls working on some speed and Laney led us with our top time there, on the guys side we had a mix of "real" 400 guys and some distance guys and Gaige and Bender led the way; in the 800, Alianna took 2nd overall, and Ryder and Kevin took 3rd and 4th in the boys' race; for the 1600 we had four guys break 5:00 with a big crew just behind, and in the girls' race, Brecken took 2nd; in the field events George was our top shot putter, Kevin led the way in the disc, Seedar won the jav, Spencer hit a PR in the high hump and in the long jump to led our team, the girls were led by Chloe who had a strong meet and PRed in the shot and the disc, while Brynlee was our top javelin thrower and high jumper. Great job to everyone, especially our new athletes - getting that first meet done is sometimes a little scary and intimidating, yet everyone did great.

Snow Canyon Invite - First, an important note... not all meets are like this; we promise! But great job to everyone dealing with the elements, the oversized numbers in events, and everything else. A few of our highlights: starting the day, Trey ran one of the greatest races in PV history taking second in the 1600 and setting the school record by 6 seconds (his 4:13.25 is the 10th fastest time run in the US so far in this young track season!); we saw some others PRs (personal records) in the 1600 from Brecken, Alianna, Porter, Bender, and Gaige. In the 3200, Brook hit her SQ (state qualifier) and took 8th while Trey placed 7th and earned his SQ as well. Our guys 4x100 took 7th. The boys 4x800 took 7th. Tori had a nice heat win in her 300h. The boys 4x200 took 7th. In tough conditions, we had some good 200s from our girls from Jade, Elsie, and Brianna. The field events really had to deal with some tough weather. Despite this, Sawyer took 2nd in the jav and got a SQ; Colton got his SQ in the shot and made finals; Isi took 7th in the high jump while getting her SQ; and TJ took 4th in the disc and earned his SQ. Overall while the girls didn't score a lot of team points, we are setting up for a good year. There is going to be a lot of improvement from everyone, and a better day later in the season with our full team together is going to see much better overall results. The guys will also see similar growth, but we did put enough together to take 5th in the meet (2nd Region and 4A team).

Youth Track - Our Youngsters program for 6-8th graders will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at PVHS from 3:10-4:00(ish). This Track and Field Skills Camp is designed to help our young athletes learn the skills and basics of a variety of track and field events in a fun and well-coached atmosphere. Spread the word to those who might want to participate.
