April 15 - 20 and Dixie Invite & Panther Relays Recaps

Another big week for the Panthers... Although we didn't get to enjoy the Panther Relays because of some weather issues, the team was able to back up the strong performances of last week with one of our best weeks in recent memory (more about that later).  The biggest thing we could ask each of you to think about this week is the idea of RE-FOCUSING.  By this we mean take a look at what you have been doing that has helped you progress this season and also evaluate what you've done to bring a positive attitude to the team.  Then take some time to re-focus all that energy and let's make a strong push to the end.

Athletes of the Week:
Sprints- Dom and NeNe
Field- Mark and Gina
Distance- Scottie and Rayne
Get your nominations in for this week (via text or email).  List the name and a short reason why he/she has earned it.  These need to be submitted by Monday at lunch.

Schedule for the Week:
Monday - regular practice schedule with a team meeting in the PVHS lecture hall.  (Distance runners check your schedule, for long run in the morning at 5:45a - wear white/bright clothing.)
Tuesday - JV at Dixie.  Those going to the meet... because of bus scheduling issues, the bus leaves the HS right at 2:15 and then will pick up at the MS (out at 2:15) (this is a time change!).  Meet starts at 4:00p.  Those not competing... you will have normal practice at the HS at 3:00p.
Wednesday & Thursday - regular practice schedule.
Friday - No School - talk to event coach for weekend practice schedule - please don't just take Friday through Tuesday off.

Youngsters: Practice for our 6th-8th grade developmental camp will be held Monday and Thursday from 3:00-4:00 at PVHS.  Get paperwork at practice.  Youth meet (for grades K-8th) schedule has been updated.

Upcoming Invites: This coming weekend we don't have an invite.  But the following two weekends are four big meets.  First on the weekend of April 26-27 we have the Cedar Invite and the Orem Tiger Trials Invite.  About 25 of our top athletes will be travelling to Orem on Friday and competing at the meet on Saturday the 27th.  The rest of the varsity and upper JV will head to Cedar for a two-day meet on the 26th and 27th.  The next week is Region JV at the Canyon View Invite on 30th of April.  This is a qualifier, and we will send a few Varsity athletes up who are needing to try and get a State Qualifier; however, most of the athletes who travel will be our JV athletes (those that won't be competing at Region).  And then on Friday, May 3rd, we will be traveling to Herriman.  This meet will be for invited Varsity athletes.  You must hit the qualifying marks (here are the 2018 marks - please note the message at the bottom of the document) to be eligible to travel to this meet.  We will be staying overnight and returning on Saturday the 4th - this is also Sr. Ball day, please have your plans worked out if you are coming back (with YOUR parent/guardian) well before the meet so you can get permission from the administration and for hotel purposes.  Both overnight meets (Orem and Herriman) require a $25 hotel fee that MUST be payed before the trip).

Dixie Invite Recap: Despite missing some of our teammates, Dixie Invite turned out to be a big success for our team.  We saw 2 new State Qualifiers with Julien and Luke in the 1600 and 3200 respectively.  We added 26 new performances to our Best Marks list - which is the most in one week since we started keeping these stats.  And for a week with no JV meet, we still hit a big number of PRs and Season's Bests.  You can check out full results of the meet here.  Some of our strongest performances came from James who made finals in both the 110 and 300 hurdles.  Katelyn who also made finals in 2 events (100, 200).  Alli who took a 1st in the 800 and 2nd in the 400.  Gina who placed 2nd in the shot.  Jaron who placed 4th in the 400.  Sherm who took 1st in the 200.  Rylee took 8th in the 3200.  Luke and Scottie who took 4th and 8th in the 3200.  Julien who medaled in both the 1600 and 800.  Colben and Mark both hit big PRs and made finals in their respective field events (jav and shot).  Of particular note, we want to give a shout out to boys distance crew - of the 15 entries in the 800, 1600, and 3200, 12 resulted in PRs!  Including all top 5 times PV has recorded in the 1600 this season.  Pretty good stuff guys.

Alumni Update: Let's give a yell to Carson who won his first collegiate race with a victory in the 3000 steeple this weekend up at Weber and Celeste had a decent showing in her jav for Dixie at the same meet.  Mike raced for SUU down at Riverside in the 1500 and 3000 and Josie ran a strong 3000 at the same meet.

Thought of the Week: "Rest when you're weary.  Refresh and renew yourself, your body, your mind, your spirit.  Then get back to work." - Ralph Marston
This thought kind of hits on the earlier mentioned idea of re-focusing.  We are fighting a lot of injuries and mental fatigue.  Hopefully all of us have taken the time to do a bit of the mental and physical recharge mentioned in the quote... and now it is time to get back to work.  We've done some pretty amazing things this year, but it doesn't have to end here.  There is more to do!  Let's get re-focused and back to work.
