Week of April 8 - 13 and Desert Hills Invite & Hurr JV Recap (UPDATED)

Can you feel the energy around our program right now?!  It is an exciting time to be part of PV Track and Field.  Take a few minutes and look at all our great results on athletic.net - browsing through the school records for each grade and overall you will see many results from this year breaking into the top 20 (although records are sparse from before 2005, girls records are updated with most of the top performances before this time; boys records include very few results from before 2005).  Also check out the update Best Marks of 2019 based upon our Performance Chart.

Athletes of the Week:

Distance-
Get your nominations in for this week (via text or email).  List the name and a short reason why he/she has earned it.  These to be submitted by Monday at lunch.

Registration Update:  We have a few new athletes... Each of you MUST have registermyathlete done and fees paid.  Anyone who doesn't have this done won't be allowed to practice or participate with the team.

Grades: If you are going to be traveling to Orem and or Herriman in the next few weeks, you must have acceptable grades (this varies by the individual, but absolutely no D's or F's).  So get your work in and get the grades up.  A grade check will be held next week.

Schedule for the Week:
Monday - regular practice schedule with a team meeting in the PVHS lecture hall.  (Distance runners check your schedule, for long run in the morning at 5:45a - wear white/bright clothing.)
Tuesday - Panther Relays - everyone will be participating in the relays for practice.  Relay teams will be organized at practice on Monday.  We need a few field event parents to be able to help at events (4:00-6:00'ish).  UPDATE: Relays have been canceled because of weather.  Regular practice schedule at 3:00p.
Wednesday & Thursday - regular practice schedule.
Friday & Saturday - Dixie Invite.  We will get as many athletes as possible into this meet (but priority will be given to the Varsity level athletes). Bus info:  Friday - HS is out after 4th.  MS is out at 1:45 and will get picked up shortly after.  Meet starts at 3:00p.  Saturday - bus is leaving from the HS at 7:45a.  Meet starts at 9:00a.
We will be asking that athletes stay throughout the meet to promote team unity and support each other.
Here is the schedule for the meet (click the schedule link at on the top left).

Youngsters: Practice for our 6th-8th grade developmental camp will be held Monday and Thursday from 3:00-4:00 at PVHS.  Get paperwork at practice.  Youth meet (for grades K-8th) schedule has been updated.  K-8th graders can run in the Open 1600 at the Panther Relays on Tuesday (no cost).  Usually this race will take place between 6:30 and 7:00p (but that is always kind of a guess). Youth meet on Wednesday at DHHS 3:45-6:00'ish.  Registration starts at 3:30p.  $1/event.

Hurricane JV Recap: And our growth and development continues... Another great group of performances as we continue to get stronger and stronger as the season goes on.  Here are some of the best marks for Hurricane JV - 1600: Kyanne 3rd, Addi 5th, Brinley and Allison PRs; Tavin 1st, Mikey and Dakota 4th and 5th; PRs from almost all the 100s: Kali, Crystal, Jasmine, Allison; Alec (2nd), Daylor (6th), Jaylen, Connor, James, Cooper, Nick, Dalton; 400: Macy 8th; Jaron 1st; 800: Jenna and Emma 5th and 6th; Mikey 1st, Tavin 4th, Dakota 8th; 200: pretty much everyone PRed and killed it (see the 100 list above!) including a 1,2,3 sweep with Jaron, Daylor, and Jaylen; We also swept the 3200s with Jenna, Kylee, and Rayne; and Boston, Tyler, and Gabe.  In the Field events Ruben took 4th in disc, Addi won the jav, Mark took 2nd in the shot while Peter and Nick were 5th and 6th.  We swept the boys LJ with Jaron, Alec and Daylor.  And Jake was 2nd in the jav.  All the scoring helped the boys take 2nd and the girls 3rd.

DH Invite Recap: We keep racking up the qualifiers!  This week we add to the list: Alli in the 3200, Cooper in the 3200, Dom and Sherm in the 100, the boys 4x100, and the boys medley.  We had some other great performances, too.  Katelyn continues to show huge improvements in the 100.  She qualified 2nd for finals with a 13.15 and finished 3rd with a nearly identical time.  She also qualified for finals in the 200.  Marcus, Dom, and Sherm went 1, 2, 4 in the 100 finals.  Both the medley and 4x100 teams that SQed won 1st.  Cooper's 3200 placed in him 2nd.  Alli's time placed her 1st in the 3200 and she also took 2nd in the 1600.  Jessica finished 3rd in the 3200.  Scottie placed 5th with a big PR and Julien 7th in the 3200.  Evan followed up a solid med 800 with a PR in the open 800 while placing 4th.  In the disc, Ruben recorded a big PR.  Gina recorded a 2nd place finish in the shot with put of 33-05.  And also, Jaron jumped over 20 feet for the first time to take 3rd in the LJ.  Overall scoring saw the boys ended up 2nd in a very crowded field and the girls finish 6th.

Fossil Donut Run: is coming up on April 12th.  We are looking for athletes who would like to go participate with FRIS in this fun event (you have to run just a little).  Look at your calendars and class schedules to see if you might be able to attend - the races are right around lunch time (I think).

Thought of the Week: "I get my butt kicked in practiced by the top runners in the NCAA every week, but today's race helped remind me that it's all worth it!" - Dallin Farnsworth
Dallin is a distance runner at BYU and said this after setting a 10K PR at the Stanford Invite this year.  Sometimes its hard to push through practice when it seems like we aren't improving or we aren't as fast as someone else.  But it is important to remember that this is actually okay; having competition is okay; not being first is okay.  Our growth comes from being pushed by those around us and creating a culture where we help each other do our very best every day.  And then, when the time is right, our great races (or throws, or jumps) will happen, too.
