Week of Feb. 3-8

Our OFFICIAL START DATE IS COMING SOON! Feb. 18th - so let's get more people out. Now is the time to get in shape, so we are ready for workouts and races (2020 schedule).

A big push for the Root Beer Mile which will be held on Feb. 10th (next Monday). This is the XC fundraiser for Mr. PVHS. We want everyone (not just distance runners) to participate. Suggested registration donation amount is $25. Start collecting your donations from family, friends, business, etc... (EVEN if you don't want to run - for some weird reason! - we want everyone to donate). Those who aren't running can enter into a raffle by supporting your favorite runner. $1 per raffle ticket. We are looking for any donations for prizes; so you if own (or know someone who has) a business and are willing to donate anything let us know. You can donate by getting your $ to sponsor a runner or bring the money to Jessica Hill or Coach Holt and will deposit it to the Finance Office. Venmo donation to @Dave-Holt77 and mention Mr. PVHS and your money will also be transferred to the Finance Office.

Schedule for the Week:
Monday - Friday - regular practice schedule 3:00p-5:00p
Tuesday & Thursday - weights at 6:15a-7:00a for anyone who isn't lifting (such as distance runners, maybe some sprinters)
Wednesday - 6:15a for distance runners Levels 2&3 (no Fresh or Soph)
Saturday - talk to event coach for practice schedule

Spirit Packs: Gear is up... Order here! THIS GEAR IS NOT OUR UNIFORM GEAR (it is practice gear and won't be worn in meets - uniforms will be ordered later). None of this gear is required; it is for you, family, friends, etc. that want some PV Track gear for practice, to wear to meets or whatever, and to show support for the program as you rep the PV Track gear. ORDER IS DUE BY FEB. 10TH (a Monday). You may use sponsor money to help you buy spirit pack gear if you have turned in the required $25 from the sponsor (see below).

Youngsters: Practice for our 6th-8th grade developmental camp will start in toward the end of February. Until then, our Youngsters can come out with the HS if parents are okay with it. We are working on our Youngsters race schedule. Hopefully in the next couple weeks we will have it finalized.

Fundraising/Sponsors: You can find sponsor papers over on the right column of this blog. If you'd like some help with paying your participation fees, hotel fees, uniform, spirit pack and so on, go get some sponsors to help you out. *IMPORTANT INFO* with each sponsor, we need $25 turned into the finance office to put their name onto the invite t-shirt and website and stuff. The rest of their donation can go to you for TRACK. However, anything that you turn in to the school goes toward the whole team and can't get applied just to your fees. So make sure you keep everything but $25 from each sponsor and then you can take that "extra" money in to the finance office and pay the fee yourself (or use for whatever other TRACK things you need). If you have questions, please talk to Coach Holt first.

Participation Fee/Register My Athlete/Physical: Let's get these all taken care of soon. Registermyathlete is super easy and only takes a few minutes to do if you have your physical on file. If you don't have a physical from this year yet, you can still do the registermyathlete just also get your physical scheduled and taken care of ASAP.

XC High Altitude Camp: XC runners, get this put on your calendar - High Altitude Camp will be held the same week as usual July 27th-30th at Deer Haven on Cedar Mountain.

Thought of the Week: "I have met a lot of runners who think that if they get the training right, the race will take care of itself. I have never believed that. The training has to be done, but I think you have to make a good race happen, and to do that you have to prepare your mind."
-Charlie Spedding (Last to First, autobiography)
Of course the same can be said for jumps and throws... training is absolutely a huge part of have a great result, but without preparing the mind for the focus, technique, strategy, and even pain you will encounter when looking to make a great race (or jump, or throw) happen you won't ever see that result. We've talked a few times about developing mindfulness and taking time to strengthen your mental preparation. The time to really work on that is now, not the night before a big meet. Prepare yourself to be prepare by preparing now!
